The United States' top intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) says that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the most dangerous and deadly extremist organization in the world. The official website of FBI in its tops story said that LTTE is far more dangerous terrorists outfit than al Queda, Hezbullah or even HAMAS. Read more...

Current Significant Issues

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a blood thirsty racist group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Government of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo in peace with the other communities. Based on 2001 census, the Tamil population in Colombo district is 12.1% (see 2001 census). So, who is discriminated ? Tamils or Sinhalese? Do you need more evidence ?

Are we serious about a solution based on Indo-Lanka Accord ?

Read more about the 13th Amendment

13th Amendment ........

The ordinary Tamil people don’t care about 13 or 17 amendments. What the ordinary Tamils want is to get on with their day to day life, get on with their agri work in the field, chena, sea, or in the offices and live a peaceful life which they experienced before 1983. We never thought of discrimination, aspiration, grievances before 1983. It was the politicians who planted these poisonous seeds into our hearts and minds. Grievances are there not only for the Tamils but even to the poor Sinhalese people in the South. That’s common to any nationality.

See what LTTE did for the Tamil civilians trying to flee the "Human Shield" of the LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists

Caution: Images shown on this web site exposing LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorist atrocities maybe disturbing for some users. Please proceed at your own discretion.

“Tamil Tigers”, also called “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam” (LTTE) declare that they are fighting the government of Sri Lanka to “liberate” the Tamils. During the past three decades of their “liberation struggle” they forcibly abducted an estimated twenty thousand children as young as ten and converted them into human bombs or cannon fodder. Tamil parents who objected to the forcible conscription of their beloved children were tortured or killed in front of their families. Finally, after seven futile attempts at internationally facilitated peace talks and ceasefires, all of which were reneged by the LTTE, the democratically elected Sri Lankan government decided that the only way to liberate the Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE was to eradicate the oppressors. Sri Lanka learned the hard way that any “ceasefire” interval given to these abominable terrorists would be used by them to recuperate, regroup, rearm and attack without warning. Tigers, once the world’s most feared terrorists, are now confined to a few square kilometres of jungle where they have corralled innocent Tamil civilians to be used as human shields. If not for the Sri Lankan government’s concern for the safety of civilians, the LTTE would have been wiped out from the face of earth many moons ago. Tigers make sure that those who try to escape into government declared safe zones are mercilessly killed, mostly burnt alive and the corpses are displayed as a deterrent to others who would try to escape. These photos were taken by a brave Tamil who managed to escape to a safe zone only last week (Read full report).

The monies that have been collected by TD for LTTE war ....

The monies that have been collected by Tamil Diaspora for LTTE war chest runs into billion of dollars during the past three decades. But, where are we now? What have Tamils achieved over the years? Tamils have earned nothing but humiliation and misery. There times I am ashamed to call myself a Tamil to avoid humiliation as Tamils are branded as a set of terrorists.

Indian intervention in Sri Lankan internal affairs

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now .....

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now that LTTE’s days are numbered and any funds collected for LTTE will benefit only Pirapaharan and his top LTTE hierarchy. Pirapaharan educated his son with your money. His wife is running around the world seeking a safe haven with your money. Pirapaharan built couple of luxurious bunkers with all the modern facility with your money. It is therefore still not too late to stop financing the dying LTTE; stop organizing protest marches, demos and rallies as the Sri Lankan government is not going to stop now until LTTE who also brought misery to the Tamils is completely defeated.

"Tamil Hitler - Made in India" Prabhakaran, who killed Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, is now seeking help from India.

Indian intervention in Sri Lankan affairs

  • They may be strong in armed forces but still they can't find a proper solution to Kashmir Problem (neither military nor political).
  • No matter how strong they are they still have terrorism problems like Chain Bombardments in their capital city, New Delhi, and attacks even inside their Parliament.
  • With all the technology to win space and with all the high tech gadgets in nuclear weaponry, they took more than 30 years to capture a single jungle thief Veerappan.
  • As a nation, collectively they are unable to derive a proper political solution to have a good relationship with neighbouring Pakistan for more than 6 decades.
  • Their politicians are still unable to convince Indian Muslims and Hindus to live in peace and harmony.
  • India had to draw back their RAW (Research and Analysis Wing - Indian intelligence) wing due to their unsuccessful interference in Sri Lanka that resulted in sacrificing their prime minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. So, they have been unsuccessful in this matter once. So, their predictions are not always correct.
  • India is one of the major parties who aggravated this problem. They trained LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists initially in south India including Prabakaran, Pottu Amman and Karuna Amman. They air supplied food stuff in the past to LTTE when were terribly in need. South India continuously smuggle combat stuff to LTTE.
  • As a nation no matter how hard they try to display a big image of their selves they have critical issues in their own country. They have racial issues, religious issues, economical issues, social issues and political issues. It is not the country we see in Bollywood films. Besides it is highly unethical to interfere the matters of another independent nation because we don't ask them what to do next. India simply don't have rights to do that.
  • South Indian politicians can come to Sri Lanka and travel through out the country to see where ethnic cleansing is. All the southern cities and all the offices there have Tamils living and working in harmony. But any of the northern cities don't have a single Sinhalese.  So, where is ethnic cleansing? So better not use unknown matters for their personal cheap short or long-term political gains.
  • We Sri Lankans don't have any other country to live in other than Sri Lanka. So, if anybody wants to give Tamils a separate country, please separate south India (Tamil Nadu) from what we currently call India, just like Pakistan and Bangladesh, and create a separate state for Tamils in the world. Tamil Nadu has all the necessities for them.

I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983

I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983 when LTTE killed 13 soldiers in Jaffna and provoked the Sinhalese in the South to retaliate. We were living with Sinhalese, Muslims, Burghers, Malays like brothers and sisters and that harmony was shattered. We all were one family of one mother Lanka. But unfortunately, LTTE brought us down to ghettos and taught us to hate Sinhalese people. What have we achieved over the last three decades? We have lost our cream of Tamil political leadership sparing only a few like Ananda Sangaree. LTTE killed our educated Tamil politicians; LTTE killed our intellectuals like Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam, Kethiswera Loganathan, Sam Thambimittu and many others including many Tamil politicians at parliamentary level to village council level. The many youth both men and women sacrificed their lives in this unwanted terrorist war launched by LTTE and ably supported by TD creating a big vacuum in the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. The Tamil minority, once the next biggest ethnic group to Sinhalese has dropped down to third place by Muslims overtaking in terms population. Who is responsible for this catastrophe? We the Tamil Diaspora and LTTE should bear the full responsibility.

Tamil Tiger Terror Machine Forcibly Holding Civilians in the Vanni as a Human Shield

LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists are using 'civilians as shields', despite constant urges made by the Sri Lanka Government for the release of thousands stranded in its clutches".

Those who are expressing concern about the security of civilians in the Wanni have stopped short of calling for action against the LTTE, which is using people as a "Human Shield" in Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu. The Sri Lankan government has made arrangements to accommodate civilians to be evicted from the theatre of war, as it successfully did in the Eastern Province. If the LTTE lets go of civilians, the question of their security won’t arise. Therefore, it may be argued that anyone who laments about the plight of civilians without faulting the LTTE or pressuring it to release people in its clutches is, either wittingly or unwittingly, helping further the LTTE’s cause.

MKN may not know that these ruthless terrorists woke up the General Manager and Deputy General Manager at two in the morning, marched them and placed them against the wall of the Cement Corporation and shot them dead point blank. These two officers were keen and had helped the people of KKS whose livelihood depended on the cement industry. These two officers were Sinhala (Island 26, August 2008).

Between February 2002 and August 2005, 2,069 complaints were registered against the LTTE. Of these, 1,693 have been ruled as CFA violations. The SLMM had ruled that the total number of CFA violations committed by the LTTE, involving all categories, is 3,113. Of the 141 cases ruled as CFA violations by the Sri Lankan armed forces, there are no complaints of child recruitment. Pointing out that upto the end of August, the UNICEF had recorded 1,277 outstanding cases of child recruitment, the Coalition emphasised that "the recruitment of any child under the age of 18 for military purposes ? whether forced or voluntary ? is contrary to international human rights norms." Responses to Dr. John Whitehall, Pediatrician Director, Townsville Hospital Neonatal Unit Queensland, Australia.

The Chinese in Malaysia is not entitled to a second homeland in Malaysia where a large Chinese community lives. Its real homeland or native is China . Malaysia is the homeland of the Malays where they are the bhoomiputras. So why should Tamils be entitled to a second homeland in Sri Lanka when next door to this island is their real homeland having a history of many thousands of years of Tamil civilization? Any foreigner has only to visit Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu see the difference between the two countries and find out what the true Tamil homeland or native land is.
Homeland .......We should note the difference between a person's land of birth and his/her motherland (or fatherland as the Germans would say). The latter is the land of our ancestors who built a civilization culture and language for over two centuries. Accordingly Sri Lanka is the motherland of the Sinhalas. They have no other home land or mother land in any other part of the world, unlike the Tamils whose homeland is Tamil Nadu established on January 14, 1969. Ninety percent of the world's Tamil population lives in India and 75 percent of them in Tamil Nadu which is twice the size of Sri Lanka .

APRC Proposals ....... The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has already warned the government that it would face dire consequences, at the forthcoming budget, if it backs the APRC proposals for a Federal State. JHU and MEP representatives of the APRC have publicly denounced the Chairman for his efforts to undermine the mandate received at the last presidential election for a unitary state. The persistent attempt by the Chairman of the APRC to sell a set of proposals based on the very same report of the expert panel, rejected by the main political parties (SLFP.JVP, JHU, MEP etc) who were instrumental when bringing the present regime into power, could drag the ruling circles into a difficult situation unless remedial action is taken in time.

Sri Lanka says rebels encircled in fierce fighting
 By SCOTT McDONALD

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lankan troops have surrounded dozens of Tamil Tiger separatist rebels during fierce fighting in the island's north in a drive to end a 25-year civil war, the military said Thursday.
The rebels — who once commanded a de facto state across a large swath of the island's north and east — have been pushed into a small sliver of coastal land measuring just 8.4 square miles (21 square kilometers), on the northeastern coast.
In the latest fighting, the military said government troops had surrounded a group of rebels in an area less than half a square mile (1 square kilometer). A statement on the defense ministry's Web site also said its forces had cut a supply route to the rebels in the Puthkkudiyirippu area.
It said the bodies of 13 rebels had also been recovered
Accounts of the battles cannot be verified because independent journalists are barred from the war zone.
Although there has been heavy fighting in the same area for weeks, the government says it is close to crushing the rebels, formally known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

The Sri Lankan government is believed to have offered to create a “corridor” in the safe zone, which could be used by the 150,000 civilians trapped in the war zone to head towards government-held territory in the south.
A top official of the government told to The New Indian Express that the corridor would be a No Fire Zone, if the LTTE would agree not to fire and also not to prevent the civilians from leaving.
Defence Ministry spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella told newspersons here on Wednesday that while there would be no ceasefire till the Tigers had laid down their arms, the Sri Lankan forces would refrain from firing if they saw civilians moving to safe areas held by the forces.
Rambukwella said that pauses in firing were taking place already to allow civilian migration. So far, over 62,000 had moved into the government held areas from the conflict zone, he pointed out.

The phenomenal fete of Sri Lanka’s armed forces

Fri, 2009-04-03 00:48 By Shenali Waduge

Why is no concerted effort ever been taken to show the people of the world the reality that countries like US, UK and France have earned more income from arms sales to developing nations than they have given in AID – all these profits accruing from machines designed to kill & main human beings.

There are many who believe a military option is not possible. Given that the UN Security Council’s 5 permanent members and the G8 nations account for 88% of the world’s arms trade can anyone envisage wars and conflicts coming to a close? Military solutions become unbelievable and unimaginable because the very powers that voice calls for peace are the very powers that manufacture and sell arms and ammunitions even going so far as to create scenarios for conflicts. Therefore for a developing nation such as Sri Lanka to actually program a military end to a 30 year conflict is an achievement for its success has been against not only the LTTE but against many of these powerful forces that do not desire for wars to end. Therefore, Sri Lanka’s success story should rightfully find its place in history books.
Sri Lanka’s conflict was categorized as "ethnic" for reasons that suited the existence of the conflict and it has merited those who desired to project Sri Lanka as riddled with ethnic tension. While the conflict benefited nations and Governments which perhaps "created" a new avenue to sell arms to both the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE, it also provided a means to train both parties, while supporting others through the "war industry" – new jobs within the UN, INGO, NGO groups, opening up of new offices in Sri Lanka, disbursement of monies, sensational stories to cover for media agencies and their reporters, facilitating influx of “refugees” that would fill voids in those nations while the LTTE pawn was able to launch their agenda which so long as it did not disturb the arms manufacturers and distributors would be allowed to continue unabated. Of course the LTTE did overstep their mandate by assassinating Rajiv Gandhi in India or did they?

Vital UN food aid en route to displaced persons in northern Sri Lanka

WFP food convoy in Sri Lanka 2 April 2009 – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said today that 1,000 metric tons of critically-needed food assistance has been dispatched to a designated “safe zone” in north-eastern Sri Lanka, where more than 100,000 people have been displaced by fighting. The items were sent aboard a ship chartered by the Government of Sri Lanka, sailing under the flag of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and was due to be unloaded later today.
WFP said the food aid would be sufficient to feed approximately 100,000 people for 20 days.
According to the UN, the area of fighting between Government forces and the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) shrank from 300 square kilometres to nearly 58 square kilometres in February, with many civilians – the world body believes between 150,000 and 190,000 – sheltering in a 14-square kilometre “no-fire” zone in the northern Vanni region.

LTTE's technical wing chief killed in confrontation - Mullaittivu

LTTE's technical wing chief S. Kirupakaran alias Madivalahan was confirmed killed following a confrontation with Sri Lankan security forces at the Mullaittivu battlefront recently, defence sources said citing intercepted LTTE communication.
According to available information, LTTE has offered the self-styled 'Lt.Colonel' status to the slain terrorist on Tuesday (March 31), who was said to be the mastermind and chief coordinator of the LTTE's satellite cum radio communication network.
Madivalahan was born in Jaffna and has reportedly spent most of his time at Trincomalee before joining the terrorist organization as a full time activist. "This is what to be expected in the coming days as more senior tigers will be exposed to direct military attacks" a defence observer said adding that the loss of Madivalahan also underscores the probable end game for the LTTE.
The death of Madivalahan has triggered tension and drawn heavy critics against the present LTTE leadership, amongst the hell bent LTTE diaspora circles in Toronto and London, the observer further stated.

Tigers do not represent anyone ..... certainly not the Tamil people' says Lord Naseby
Lord Naseby, a veteran Sri Lankan monitor provides an insight to the country's war on terrorism

Lord Naseby, a veteran Sri Lankan monitor provides an insight to the country's war on terrorism "The A9 road to Jaffna was reopened after 10 years. The only sinister element is that the Tigers have forced the Tamil civilians to go with them to provide a human shield. The UN estimates the numbers at 250,000 but other state 100,000, however nearly 50,000 have got out, despite the Tigers shooting some.
Appeals have been made by the UN, the four Co- Chairs, the Red Cross and the civilians to leave as the area of jungle held by the Tigers gets smaller and smaller - but to no avail", states veteran monitor of Sri Lankan Affairs, Chair of All Party Parliamentarian Group Lord Naseby.
"People ask why there can't be a cease fire; the answer is that this terrorist group has held Sri Lanka to ransom for 25 years. They can surrender or be wiped out. The Tigers do not represent anyone - certainly not the Tamil people" he further asserted in a special report provided on Sri Lanka in The House Magazine titled, 'Ransomed in the last redoubt', on March.

Sri Lanka says flood of people leave war zone
By SCOTT McDONALD

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — More than 23,000 civilians escaped last month from a war zone in Sri Lanka's north, where the military appears close to crushing the Tamil Tiger separatist rebels, the government said Wednesday.
Tens of thousands of civilians have been trapped by the fighting as the military has rolled up a series of battlefield victories and pushed the rebels into a small sliver of beach and land — measuring just 8.4 square miles (21 square kilometers) — on the northeast coast.
The rebels — who once commanded a de facto state across a large swath of the island's north and east — deny they are on the brink of defeat, but have also appealed for a cease-fire.
The 23,606 who fled in March was down from the nearly 33,000 who escaped in February, but the fighting last month was confined to a smaller area making it harder to flee.
The rebels, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, have denied accusations they are holding the civilians as human shields and that they fire on them to stop them from fleeing.

Release all the Tamil Innocent Civilians, Lay Down Arms - Sri Lanka Government’s response to ceasefire call by the LTTE Wed, 2009-04-01 05:49 Colombo, 01 April, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka Governmnet has categorically stated that they will not enter into any ceasefire agreement or a pause in their hostile campaign, as long as the non-state actor LTTE free the entire innocent Tamil civilians held hostages and surrender arms.
This was the latest response of the Government of Sri Lanka to the statement by the LTTE Political Headquarters. The statement said "Our organization wishes to reiterate our agreement to an immediate ceasefire."
A Government spokesman told Asian Tribune, the word "Ceasefire" is not the right parlance at this juncture. He told that LTTE is not a state actor to enter into any ceasefire agreement. It is a terrorist organization proclaimed by India, United States, United Kingdom, Canada and also by the European Union.
Entering into a ceasefire Agreement with an internationally proclaimed terrorist organization would amounts to giving credence and recognition, the Government spokesman said.

He also said that Sri Lanka has the bitter experience of earlier ceasefires during which the LTTE used it to strengthen itself.
However the Spokesman said that despite the denial of ceasefire by the government, some elements have misinterpreted the temporary suspension of military activities aimed at facilitating the free movement of trapped civilians.
"As long as President Mahinda Rajapaksa is in power there will be no cessation of military action against terrorism," the Minister said.

Europeans and their Tribes

The tenth session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva has come to a close without the anticipated assault on the Sri Lankan state. This had been on the cards for quite some time, beginning with the motion against Sri Lanka that had been put forward three years ago.
Fortunately some concerted diplomatic action, involving regular briefings of all states who were genuinely interested in the country, saw that motion scratched in 2007, and since then there was much less pressure. This year however was different, for the LTTE saw this as their best hope of internationalising the issue. Hence the hordes of LTTE sympathizers who turned up, to buttonhole various ambassadors, to brief the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to make aggressive interventions during the debate.

The callousness of the international community

While doubtless the assaults on the Sri Lankan state will continue, at least until the Tigers can no longer operate either from our shores or elsewhere, I believe the last few weeks have helped us to clarify certain misconceptions.  Certainly the problem that is aired accusingly has boiled down to the one simple fact, that there are a number of civilians forcibly kept by the LTTE in the area still under their control, and they will continue to suffer while conflict continues.   Gone however are the claims that they were being targeted by our forces.
Whilst one cannot be absolutely sure that there is no collateral damage, the care that is being exercised now, the results of the care exercised in the first several months of the offensive, the few instances in which there was evidence of where the shooting came from, all suggest that the Tigers bear the main responsibility for the casualties.   Again, while massive numbers were used earlier, these have now come down, even though none of those who previously cited massive figures has regretted the exaggerations.
Of course when it comes to casualties, whether the number is big or small is not the question – but by dealing firmly with the figures, we have at least got rid of the canard that the civilians were being starved.  Indeed we have even managed to supply medical assistance up to a reasonable standard, certainly better than in other theatres of conflict, so the fact that we, rather than the Tigers, have been looking after our fellow civilians, is no longer much in question.

THE AMBASSADOR TELLS THE WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL IN LOS ANGELES TO COME AND INVEST IN THE POST CONFLICT SRILANKA
(By Walter Jayawardhana)

The Sri Lanka ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya told investors, professionals and the diplomats of the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles that the post conflict future in Sri Lanka would open many a doors to the US investors in the island nation. He said , Demining ,Demilitarization, Democratization and Development would  take place in the country’s Northern province where the security forces are at the tail end of defeating terrorism and added, “We will love democratization at the top of the list but the government is compelled to do away with the thousands of mines buried under the ground and disarming unauthorized parties before democracy and development is introduced to the area.”
During remarks Monday with the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles , the Ambassador for Sri Lanka to the U.S. , Jaliya Wickramasuriya, presented his views on a post-conflict future for Sri Lanka and the prospects for a strong business climate for U.S. investors. "We will rebuild the north," said the Ambassador, "by using a plan that worked well in our eastern province. We call it the four Ds, which stands for: de-mining, de-militarization, democratization and development." Concerned about land mines and other remnants of militarization, the Ambassador warned about the need to de-mine and de-militarize before proceeding with democracy and development. Citizens in the Northern provinces of Sri Lanka - similar to those in the East prior to 2007 - have not had the opportunity to democratically elect their representatives for decades.

31 LTTE rebels killed in Lanka clashes

T V Sriram Colombo, Mar 31 (PTI)
At least 31 rebels were killed in fierce clashes with security forces in Sri Lanka's north where an LTTE suicide bomber blew himself up fearing arrest by troops engaged in a search operation, even as the government exuded confidence that the war would be over within three weeks.
Troops also captured an LTTE truck carrying a 12.7mm Anti-Aircraft machine gun during operations in the Irnapali area, Puthukkudiyiruppu East, the army said.
As the military began the "final countdown" to capture the entire LTTE-held territory, troops captured an earth bund built by the rebels in Thevvadi area of Mullaittivu amidst fierce gun battles, it said.
The earth bund had been erected by the rebels to stall the advance of the troops into the LTTE area close to the 'No Fire Zone', the army said.
G L Peiris, Minister of Export Development and International Trade, meanwhile, said the war would be over within three weeks.
The foreign nations have also agreed to implement mega projects subsequently, he was quoted as saying.
His comments came amid a series of confrontations in Pudukudiyirippu in Mullaittivu, where troops inflicted heavy damage on the rebels.

Desperate Tigers Play with Arty Guns, but End in Disaster
2009-03-31 16:00:30 MULLAITTIVU:

DISASTER struck hard on Tiger terrorists once again at about 11.30 a.m. Tuesday (31) forenoon when Tiger terrorists after bringing a 130 mm Artillery gun, as close as some 200 meters away from troop positions in PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, started launching direct-roll fire (face to face) on the troops.
Timely preparedness and alertness of the troops however prompted action and completely destroyed the LTTE artillery gun with the help of one artillery gun used by the Army and one fighter craft of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Terrorists started firing after reaching as close as some 200 meters but the troops, mindful of the civilian factor, sought the aerial support to destroy the enemy artillery.
Army troops through technical sources well in advance learnt the movement of this LTTE artillery gun. However, Tigers went on firing the artillery rounds indiscriminately but the troops showed restraint and meticulously use the retaliatory fire. The total destruction of the LTTE artillery was enabled by the Air Force.
Tiger terrorists by doing so have openly flouted standard firing practices and strategies, laid down for conventional warfare, analysts said.

No ceasefire under any circumstances- President Rajapaksa
Tue, 2009-03-31 04:16 By Ravi Ladduwahetty- Sri Lanka Editor – Asian Tribune

Colombo, 31 March, (Asiantribune.com): The Government willPresident Mahinda Rajapaksa not go in for any ceasefire with the LTTE under any circumstances, President Mahinda Rajapaksa told the UPFA Kalutara District United People’s Freedom Alliance organizers this morning.
"We will not cave into pressures from any international quarters locally and internationally and will not stop until the war was completely over," he said.
He said that the delay in finishing the remaining parts of the war was due to the Security Forces being asked to exercising restraint in the conflict zones which has civilians.
He also said that the US$ 1.9 billion credit line was taken keeping in mind the future generations and without conditions without compromising the interests of the nation.
He also said that unlike past leaders who blamed the war as the impediment for national development, this Government had not forgotten the developments efforts while sincerely fighting a ruthless bunch of terrorists
The Government was carrying on with the Norochcholai Hydro Power project the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project and the Moragahakanda Reservoir while also simultaneously developing five ports- the Colombo South Port, and the Ports of Galle, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Oluvil.
Commenting on the forthcoming Western provincial Council poll, he said that the criteria to become the Chief Minister would not only be the preferential votes but ability to serve and seniority within the party.
So, do not fight within the party for preferential votes, he said.

Lanka rejects international calls for ceasefire

T V Sriram Colombo, Mar 31 (PTI)

Rejecting international community's call for a ceasefire with the LTTE, the Sri Lankan government has said this would only help the rebels recover from the effects of the conflict and will prolong the 25-year-old war.
"It is unfortunate that some in the international community have fallen straight into the well-laid trap of the LTTE and are calling for a ceasefire... Which would only help the terrorists to recover and drag this war for another twenty five years," Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona said here.
Kohona said the Tigers have consistently ignored the government's appeals for letting the Tamil civilians trapped in the war zone leave for safer areas, thereby demonstrating "again and again the utter and callous disregard paid by LTTE to the very people they claim to represent".
"As the LTTE's delusion fades into history, the government is calling on Tamils living overseas to return to the warm embrace of mother Lanka and seek a common future with all her other children, whether they be Tamils, Muslims, Sinhalese, Malays, Burghers," he told representatives of the Tamil diaspora.

Sri Lanka rejects latest Tiger truce call

By C. Bryson Hull

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's president said on Tuesday a military offensive to crush Tamil Tiger rebels would go on, spurning the struggling separatists' call for a truce.
The Tigers are cornered in 25 square km (10 sq miles) of northern Sri Lanka, encircled by an army fighting to end Asia's longest-running civil war.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa rejected reports that the military would consider a "humanitarian pause." The United Nations wants civilians and others say are being kept as a human shields by the Tigers to be allowed to flee.
"We will not cave into pressures from any international quarters, locally and internationally, and will not stop until the war was completely over," Rajapaksa said in a statement.
The government has repeatedly said it will not stop until the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) surrender or die, and accuses rights groups, the United Nations and others who say too many civilians are being killed of parroting Tiger propaganda.
The Tigers on Tuesday accused the international community and the United Nations of maintaining a double standard by saying the rebels should comply with humanitarian law, while ignoring what it says are attacks on civilians by the Sri Lankan military.

Sri Lanka: Ever more sick and wounded evacuated from conflict area to hospital Source: International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

Date: 31 Mar 2009

Since 10 February the ICRC has evacuated thousands of people from conflict-weary northern Sri Lanka to Trincomalee district for medical treatment. Martin Hermann, an ICRC surgeon, speaks about the evacuated patients and his work.
Why is the ICRC evacuating civilians out of the Vanni?
As fighting between Sri Lankan government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) continues, sick and wounded people continue to arrive at a makeshift health facility in Putumattalan, on the northern Sri Lanka coast. Because of the lack of properly functioning medical facilities in the conflict area, the ICRC has evacuated over 6,600 people – the sick and wounded and their attendants – to Trincomalee district by sea since 10 February. Upon arrival, patients are transferred to hospital for treatment. In Trincomalee Hospital, Ministry of Health staff and an ICRC medical team, consisting of a surgeon (myself), an anaesthetist and a nurse, have treated over 1,900 patients since the first sea evacuation took place.

SUNDAY TELEGRAPH QUOTES TAMILS FROM TIGER ENCLAVE WHO SAY THE REMAINING PEOPLE TRAPPED DO NOT LIKE LTTE AND THEY WANT THE ARMY TO COME AND RESCUE THEM

(By Walter Jayawardhana)

The mass circulated Sunday Telegraph of the United Kingdom in a full page article said the people who escaped from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled area had told them that the remaining people do not like the Tamil Tigers’ dictatorial mini-state any more and they want the Sri Lankan army to rescue them..

Quoting such a man who escaped to Kilinochchi Sunday Telegraph’s Nick Meo said, “What the man had to say about the Tigers would have been unthinkable for a subject of their dictatorial mini state a few weeks ago. ‘The people do not like the Tigers any more,’ he said angrily . ‘They are trapped by them and they are scared. They want the Sri Lankan army to rescue them.”

Reporting from Kilinochchi the Sunday Telegraph staffer said, people are being used as human shields by Tamil rebels who have promised to fight to the death.

The report further said, “The haunted eyes of the grandfather who had just escaped from the Tamil Tigers at their most furious betrayed the horror he had left behind him ‘I want to live not die, and that’s why I have come here with my family’, he said.

“The exhausted businessman was safe in a Sri Lankan army base after weeks trapped with …other civilians in a seven square mile strip of land on Sri Lanka’s North East coast, short of food and fresh water and incessantly pounded by shells.

Letter to Mrs Clinton by a Canadian of Sri Lankan Origin

March 26, 2009

The Honourable Hillary Clinton,
 Secretary of State,
 U.S. Department of State,
 2201 C Street, NW, Washington DC 20520

Dear Madam Clinton,

*Memorandum of **9.3.2009 **by 38 Senators on the** Current Situation in Sri Lanka * * *

The Senators’ memo expressing grave concern over a humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka appears to be inspired by the Tamil Tiger Terrorist Diaspora. Continuous lobbying and sheer repetition of falsehood have perhaps led to the belief that the projected data comprise the truth. My request is to consider this submission as well and to allow the Government of Sri Lanka to bring its war against terror to a relative end.

For over 2500 years of recorded history, Sri Lanka has been focused on defending its sovereignty, never initiating a war, never bartering away its territorial integrity, never submitting to terrorism. For the past nearly 30 years the LTTE has challenged its Government. About the LTTE, please consult FBI reports. It knows nothing but ruthlessness. The cause be whatever, nothing justifies terrorism, child soldiery (*Attachment 1*), drug and human trafficking; extortion, enforced military training even of the aged.* (See E-mail 1 *which follows this.)

As for Sri Lanka’s history, “One of the greatest migrations in Indian history, most far-reaching in its shaping power on the fortunes of this country, took place when Vijaya and his followers landed in Lanka in 543 BC. In less than four generations, barren wastes were turned into fruitfulness by thousands of immigrants from Northern India. Thousands of them came ready from the day they landed on these shores to direct their strength to the development of the newly established State. … They brought with them, within them rather, the ripened fruit of civilization, literature and art, poetry and music.” (/The Revolt in the Temple /by DC Vijayavardhana, page 31, Sinha Publications, 1953, Daily News Press, Lake House, Colombo). Thus North Indian culture was transported “to create and enrich the virgin civilization of Lanka.” These people fused and integrated with the vestiges of the four (/siv/) clans or /sivhela/ - Yaksha (/yakada/ or iron workers), Ráksha, Deva and Nága to form the indigenous nation of Sinhala people. It remains the Resplendent Isle or Sri Lanka. (‘Lanka’ is derived from ‘A-lanka-ra’ - resplendent or splendid).

Security in the Chalai and Mullaitivu sea belt bolstered

Security in the Chalai and Mullaitivu sea belt has been stepped up, on the innstructions of Naval Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Kannanagoda.
The Sri Lanka Navy is implementing the security programme to prevent sea tiger activities within the Nayaru, Mullaitivu, Chalai and Chundikulam sea belt. The Navy is taking action to attack sea tigers so that they will be unable to hinder innocent Tamil civilians fleeing to Government controlled areas on the sea route.
The Navy had been able to totally destroy sea tigers and their trawlers due to the strong Naval defence line. Heavy fighting erupted between the Navy and the sea tigers in the Chalai and Mullaitivu sea area last night. It was possible to destroy three sea tiger trawlers following continued attacks by the Navy. Another sea tiger trawler was shattered in the Mullaitivu Sea in the wee hours of today. Intercepted LTTE communication bared that several LTTE leaders including a sea tiger leader Maran, had been killed.

TIMES OF INDIA SAYS MAOIST INSURGENTS WOULD GET HELP OF THE LTTE TO DISRUPT COMING GENERAL ELECTIONS
(By Walter Jayawardhana)

The Times of India newspaper, sourcing from intelligence sources said that the battered Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) might try to help India’s Maoist insurgents to disrupt polling activities in the coming general elections.
The report said, “Though the effect of LTTE-support, according to the central intelligence agencies, is expected to be felt mostly down south and southeast, the repercussion cannot be ignored even in the central India.”
The newspaper said Indian intelligence services have in the past found evidence of joint Maoist-LTTE military camps in the jungles of South India. In the coming elections the LTTE will try to help Maoists to disrupt elections the Times of India said.
The following is the full story that appeared in the Times of India:
The Maoists’ plan to challenge the security forces during the forthcoming general election may turn ominous as the former are likely to get support from various anti-national groups including a battered LTTE looking to create diversions. Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tigers have been a known ally of the rebels.
In the ballot versus bullet war, government security forces would possibly have to fight grim battles to ensure that citizens do not succumb to the boycott call of the Maoists and the polling is not disrupted. Though the effect of LTTE-support, according to the central intelligence agencies, is expected to be felt mostly down south and southeast, the repercussion cannot be ignored even in the central India.
Maharashtra state Anti-Naxal Operation Cell (ANO) has already issued an alert to the adjoining states to step up their border-sealing activities to prevent ‘crossing-over’ and ‘joint-operations’ of the Naxal outfits. The LTTE, which had earlier also supported Maoist with training and arms, is likely to play mischief in order to disrupt election. “LTTE is in a shambles but it would not leave any stone unturned to settle scores with India,” said a cop.
Intelligence agencies have often found evidence of joint training camps and meetings of the LTTE and Maoists in forests of south India. “We also have to disrupt these meetings in the jungles and hilly terrains,” the officer said. The threat in Gadchiroli, which shares borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh that have large numbers of highly-sensitive zones, is also looming large. (eom)

Some Foreign Nations Conspire to Give LTTE a Lifeline

AT a time when the LTTE is breathing its last, some foreign countries are engaged in a conspiracy to give a lifeline to this terrorist movement. These countries support the Government as well as the LTTE simultaneously using their duplicitous character.
Steps must be taken to rid this country of terrorism without falling prey to these duplicitous machinations, National Patriotic Movement President Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera told at a press conference at the head office recently.
When there was a proposal at the UN Security Council for Sri Lanka to go for a ceasefire, China opposed it in favour of Sri Lanka. Certain countries wanted to protect Prabhakaran under the guise of that proposal, Dr. Amarasekera said.
Meanwhile, there was another smear campaign against Sri Lanka by another UN Human Rights Commission official. Her reports against Sri Lanka were based on materials obtained from Tamil Net website which supports the LTTE.
Only those foreigners and South Indians stage protests for the Tigers. Today the Government is confidently and strongly facing all these challenges, he said.

46 LTTE rebels killed in fierce Lanka clashes

At least 46 Tamil Tigers, including women, were killed in fierce clashes with security forces who captured an earth bund built by the rebels in Sri Lanka’s embattled north, where an LTTE suicide bomber blew himself up fearing arrest by troops engaged in search operations.
A unit of troops under the command of Brigadier Prasanna Silva breached LTTE defence lines and gained control over the LTTE-built earth bund-cum-ditch in north of Palamathalan in Mullaittivu yesterday (March 28), the Defence Ministry said today.
Unable to face the military offensive, LTTE fighters fled from the area, security sources said, adding at least eight rebels were killed and 17 others wounded in the fighting in Palamathalan yesterday.
“LTTE is continuously mounting heavy artillery and mortar attacks from the government declared No Fire Zone and this has been the only response the losing rebels could give as they are avoiding direct engagement with military,” the ministry said.
During subsequent search operations, troops found bodies of two LTTE rebels along with two T-56 assault rifles.

Tiger paws behind humanitarian pause?
(Editorial - The Island)

The LTTE has lost the entire land area under its control save about one sq. km. Before the present phase of war began in 2006, the LTTE held over 15,000 sq. km in the North and the East. But, today it has taken refuge in the no-fire zone behind a human shield. In fact, the term no-fire zone has lost its meaning as the LTTE is using it to mount attacks on the army. It is a no-fire zone only for the troops.
If civilians were to flee the 'no-fire zone' today, Prabhakaran and his lieutenants would be dead tomorrow. In other words, Prabhakaran will never allow civilians to leave that area, as he knows their release is tantamount to his death. It is against this backdrop that international pressure mounting on the government to agree to yet another 'humanitarian pause' should be viewed.
Such a pause should come from the LTTE and not from the military which is not taking the war into the safe zone, as could be seen from the fact even the LTTE leader has found a safe haven there. If the LTTE did not hold civilians forcibly and use violence to prevent them from fleeing, to begin with, there would be no humanitarian crisis in the Vanni: All the civilians would be safe in welfare centres elsewhere.
Even if the government were to agree to a 'humanitarian pause', what difference would it make in the humanitarian situation with the LTTE determined to hold civilians as a shield? In such an eventuality, the LTTE would only make a virtue of necessity by releasing the sick and the aged in small numbers at a time, as it did during a recent humanitarian ceasefire so that the process of evacuation would drag on till kingdom come.

Sri Lanka Navy is providing safe passage for evacuees on humanitarian grounds.
The patients among the evacuees, upon disembarkation at Pulmuadai , were provided with emergency medical treatment by Naval doctors and were rushed to the Field hospital in Pulmudai and the General hospital in Padaviya by the naval personnel for further treatment. Elaborate arrangements have been made to treat the sick and the wounded evacuees once they reach cleared areas. Hospitals have been equipped with adequate stocks of essential drugs and specialist medical personnel are assigned to treat the sick and the wounded as they are transferred to hospitals.
The fifteenth batch consisted of 168 adult males, 198 adult females and 141 children in total. Among them were 68 male and 64 female patients needing medical treatment. The evacuees had been languishing in pain and fear due to the LTTE's adamant stance to hold all civilians captive in the un-cleared areas as human shields despite the repeated appeals by the International Community to free all civilians to arrive in safe areas immediately.

AMBASSADOR WICKRAMASURIYA MEETS SECRETARY OF STATE HILARY CLINTON IN WASHINGTON DC
(By Walter Jayawardhana)

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Washington DC, Jaliya Wickramasuriya recently told Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton that still the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were using Tamil civilians as a shield in the island’s conflict zone, the embassy said
The statement said, “ Jaliya Wickramasuriya, Sri Lanka ’s ambassador to the United States , recently discussed the fighting in the north against LTTE forces with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”
During a meeting called by Secretary Clinton of all ambassadors in Washington, Wickramasuriya spoke privately with Secretary Clinton about the LTTE’s use of civilians as human shields in the conflict zone, the statement said.
“Secretary Clinton told the ambassador that the United States is anxious for the fighting to end and that it will support Sri Lankan redevelopment efforts. Her remarks were similar to those she made to President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a recent telephone call to discuss the fighting and prospects for peace in the north.
“The United States, along with Canada , the European Union and India , have designated the LTTE a terrorist organization. The U.S. Treasury Department in February froze the funds of the Tamil Foundation, a charity based in the state of Maryland , USA . The department said that the group was supporting the LTTE in Sri Lanka .” (EOM)

Government seeks Partnership with Diaspora for Reconciliation and Peace building in the North
Mon, 2009-03-30 00:36 Colombo, 30 March, (Asiantribune.com):

The Government of Sri Lanka is committed towards developing a partnership with the Sri Lankan Diaspora in promoting a new era of peace through reconciliation among the different communities and implementing an economic plan to reconstruct the war ravaged North of the country.

This pledge was made by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama at the inauguration of a two day Sri Lankan Diaspora Dialogue in Colombo yesterday( 28th March 2009) organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister, elaborating on the involvement with the Diaspora in the post conflict era, stated that the initial engagement should evolve into a partnership with the Government as a stakeholder. This partnership, he said would be through political empowerment of the people and economic development of the North.

The Minister pointed out this dialogue that the Government has now initiated as being the first opportunity for the diverse views of the Tamil community of Sri Lankan origin living abroad to be freely articulated. Hitherto, their voices have been stifled by the oppressive control of the LTTE on the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora. The Foreign Minister expressed his confidence that this interactive dialogue with the Diaspora would develop into an inclusive process leading to sustainable peace and stability in Sri Lanka.

PRO-LTTE LABOUR PARTY M.P. WHO PROPOSED TO EXPEL SRI LANKA FROM THE COMMONWEALTH IS IN HOT WATER FOR IMPROPERLY TAKING TAX PAYER MONEY
(By Walter Jayawardhana)

After Keith Vaz another pro-Tamil Tiger Member of Parliament is in real political trouble in the United Kingdom.
Joan Ryan, the Labour Party Member of Parliament who recently proposed that Sri Lanka should be expelled from the Commonwealth of Nations is in hot water for claiming allowance for a second home while living very close to the parliament.
Her area newspaper The Enfield Independent said the MP’s “expenses are now under scrutiny as part of an enquiry into MPs allowances announced,” last week.
Some MP’s while not living that far away from the Westminster Parliament are accused of making undue use of a concessionary loophole given to MP’s living far away from the parliament and compelled to run houses close to it.
Enfield North MP Joan Ryan has taken an advantage of claiming £21,971 for the second home she ran the newspaper claimed. By public transport it takes just over an hour to travel to her other home the newspaper, accused. She is a close ally of the British Tamil Forum, the London based front organization of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
Another, British parliamentarian Keith Vaz, the leader of the pro-LTTE British parliamentary group is also under investigation allegedly for sleazy behaviour of allegedly helping a conman and enjoying his hospitality.
The Enfield Independent said, “The Prime Minister asked the Committee on Standards in Publi2c Life yesterday to review what some have dubbed the Whitehall gravy train.
“As well as expenses, the committee will also look at second jobs and other outside interests.
“Its report could lead to an overhaul of the expenses system.

THE MANILA TIMES OF THE PHILIPPINES ATTACKS UNHCR AND ITS HEAD NAVANEETHAM PILLAI FOR PRESENTING LTTE PROPAGANDA AS FACTS
(By Walter Jayawardhana)

The Manila Times, of the Philippines, attacked the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHCR) and its head Navaneetham Pillai in a strongly worded editorial that said it uses statistics spewed out by the Tamil Tiger terrorist group, as propaganda, for its official reports in place of thoroughly cross-checked facts.
The newspaper which is 106 years old said, “Much of the fodder that the UN rights body offered as its own diligently cross-checked facts was the same self-serving pap the Tamil Tiger propaganda machine is spewing out on the Internet.”
Mentioning some of the falsified statistics emanating out of the LTTE propaganda machine the respected newspaper said, “the facts on the battle ground, and the evidence from the hospitals that surround the battle zone, could prove otherwise.”
Having been defeated in the battlefield , the terrorist group is now turning into the Tamil Diaspora to make them get into the streets “in the faint hope that enough voices will be mustered to force a UN or European Union mandated ceasefire” the editorial said.
The following is the full text of the editorial:
“ONE of the less appreciated side-effects for anyone dispatched to the tropics on United Nations related business is that the good life which comes with the job—with a fair share of it spent in the customary expatriate ritual of subjecting one’s body to the harsh rays of the sun while lazing by azure-hued swimming pools or golden sandy beaches—can result in the microwaving of the brain cells.

Is the implementation of constitutional council practicable? - By S Akurugoda, Melbourne, Australia - Dr Susantha Gonatilake, in his article under the heading “Can those who question Sri Lanka’s sovereignty be CC members?” dated 18 March 2009 appeared in The Island has quite rightly pointed out misdeeds of some of the political nominees to the Constitutional Councils. As per the Article 41A (4) of the Chapter VIIA of the Constitution, the persons to be appointed or nominated to the Constitution Council (CC) shall be persons of eminence and integrity who have distinguished themselves in public life and who are not members of any political party. Dr Goonatilake has sighted two nominees as examples, namely those of Wigneswaran and Jayadeva Uyangoda. Jayaddeva Uyangoda is a strong advocate of Tamil’s so-called self-determination, separatism and Tamil Eelam and the extent of damage caused to the image of Sri Lanka and its people, as a result of his contribution towards this end, is enormous.  One needs not go far to find evidence in support of this claim. The easiest way is to visit any pro-LTTE website, particularly TamilNet and simply type-in ‘Jayadeva Uyangoda’ and search! For the LTTE propaganda machinery, he is a ‘well regarded’ political commentator’. His statements therein resembles to those of an adviser or a spokesperson of the outfit. He does not see any thing wrong with the LTTE. The entire problem is with the Sinhala politicians and the majority community. According to his ‘vision’ “the conflict must be viewed as a struggle between ‘two nations’ and Tamil ethnic rebellion is not just a terrorist endeavor as many in Sri Lanka believed at the time, but the manifestation of legitimate political grievances and aspirations of a minority ethnic community” (Read full report).

JANE’S NAVY INTERNATIONAL MARCH 2009 - Sri Lanka learns to counter Sea Tigers’ swarm tactics - Over the course of the protracted confl ict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the Sri Lanka Navy has been transformed from a constabulary service into a potent counter-insurgency force. Tim Fish reports - As Sri Lanka celebrated its Independence Day on 4 February, the Sri Lanka Army was closing in on the last pockets of resistance occupied by fi ghters from the separatist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in their jungle hideaways. After almost three decades of violent confl ict, the government appeared confi dent that victory in the struggle for control of the island was finally within sight (Read full report)

While continuing to kill civilians: LTTE daydreams - The final days of the decade long battle of the LTTE to survive seems to be bloody and tough. Losing territory and man power in every passing way the LTTE terrorists, who dominated over 15,000 skm before the hostilities broke out, still have no idea to open the gates for civilians. Instead, the terrorists are becoming very harsh on people who try to escape to liberated areas. Still the innocent civilians are being used as canon fodder to make the Tiger leader - Prabhakaran, who is on the run, happy. With no change of Tiger tactics, they have now added an additional hope - intervention from Tamil Nadu at the last minute to save them before they are pushed into the deep blue sea of the Puthumathalan (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Donation of mats to Gemunu Watch

Lt Col Anil Amarasekera, Steering Committee Member, Manel Mal Movement - The Regimental Centre of Gemunu Watch in Kuruwita requested the Manel Mal Movement to explore the possibility of supplying sleeping mats to the Gemunu Watch Reinforcement Battalion stationed in Mullaittivu. Accordingly the Manel Mal Movement contacted two donors of Cyprus and was able to obtain the necessary funds to implement this project. Five hundred sleeping mats valued at Rs. One hundred thousand was handed over by the Steering Committee members of the Manel Mal Movement and the relatives of the two donors in Cyprus to Lt Col W.D. Bandara who represented the Gemunu Watch Regimental Centre, during a simple ceremony organized at the headquarters of the Manel Mal Movement on 16th March 2009. We invite all of you and your friends in your e-mail list to join hands with us to implement such worthy projects through the Manel Mal Movement to improve the morale of the soldiers in the battle front in this final stage of the war to defeat LTTE terrorism that has been causing so much distraction to life and property in this country for the past thirty years -

China And Russia: Please tell us how we can thank you - by L. Jayasooriya - We are overwhelmed by the dramatic way you came to our rescue from the IC nations manipulating the UN to carve up this country. We are so overwhelmed that we do not know how even to begin to thank you. Does it not make you sick to hear us being told everyday that we should hold a ceasefire to enable the Tamil civilians to escape from the clutches of the LTTE that is holding them as a human shield? Have you not noticed the blatant incongruity in the calls for any form of devolution of powers to the LTTE at this juncture in the middle of the tragedy of the innocent Tamil civilians? That also implies the IC nations maintain that the LTTE represents the Tamil people. They totally ignore the opinion of the Tamils in the Northern and Eastern provinces that we have already liberated and the opinion of the Tamils who are escaping the LTTE. The only Tamils that enter into this equation are the Tamils that have lived under the clutches of the LTTE for over two decades and not the Tamils that have lived among the Sinhalese and prospered because of the Sinhalese patronage of their businesses. What this latter group first wanted was 50-50 meaning 50% of the seats in parliament for this 12% minority. They failed in that and then they brought the concept of “Traditional Homelands” consisting of one third the country containing two-third the coastline in which they have sovereign rights and in which the majority 75% Sinhalese have no rights while they continue to have the same rights as the Sinhalese in areas where Sinhalese live. It is to these Tamils that the IC nations provide all facilities in their countries to raise funds to help the LTTE to eliminate the Sinhalese (Full report in Asian Tribune).

UN’s Holmes outlines LTTE’s disrespect and unconcern for Ethnic Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka’s battle zone - Briefing on the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka to the UN Security Council John Holmes, Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator disclosed the way in which Sri Lanka’s rebel outfit LTTE endangering the lives of the one hundred thousand or more civilian non-combatants, all of whom are ethnic Tamils the outfit had proclaimed fighting for, and simply disregard their safety and welfare preventing them from leaving the battle zone to Sri Lanka government-controlled areas. Mr. Holmes told the Security Council that his office and UN representatives are working closely with the Government of Sri Lanka to facilitate the welfare and safety of the trapped civilians declaring that adequate food has been dispatched to the civilians and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Vanni region. Holms said that the LTTE is using heavy military machinery among the Tamil civilians whom they have detained as hostages endangering their lives. The following four paragraphs taken from Under Secretary General Holmes submission to the UN Security Council on Thursday, 26 March gives the whole story of how the LTTE whose declared objective was to ‘champion the cause of the Tamil people’ has completely lost their heart for the innocent Tamils who are endeavoring to escape the ‘Pol Pot style grip’ to safer areas (Full report in Asian Tribune).

Let civilians move to safer areas: Rajapaksa asks Tigers -  Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today appealed to the Tiger rebels "to free the civilians held hostage by them" to ensure their safety and said his forces were acting with extreme restraint by not targetting 'no-fire' zones despite provocations. "We appeal to the LTTE to free all civilians who are held hostage by them so that they can go to safe areas and IDP villages that are being maintained by the government," the Presidential Secretariat said in a statement. Rejecting reports that have accused the government of acting recklessly and failing to protect civilians, Rajapaksa said Sri Lankan forces do not fire any artillery or heavy weaponry into the safe zones where civilians have gathered. "If the allegations of indiscriminate attacks and disregard for civilians were true, the Sri Lankan forces would have overrun the LTTE and liberated the uncleared areas weeks earlier," the release said. Rajapaksa, during his meeting with representatives of 11 Tamil parties on Thursday told Tamil and Muslim members that the armed forces are exercising maximum restraint in the current phase of the humanitarian operation. Terming the figure of 40 to 50 civilians deaths daily in the Wanni an exaggeration, Rajapaksa speculated that the rebels might be covering their cadres deaths by labelling them as civilian casualties (Full report in PTI).

Des Browne shows his hand - British MP, Des Browne, recently named as Britain’s special envoy to Sri Lanka was one of those who attended a diaspora Tamil conference in London last week where no criticism of the LTTE holding a captive human shield of civilians in the last sliver of land the Tigers hold in the Vanni. "These are the people foisted on us to try and find a fair settlement," senior official sources in Colombo said yesterday. "This was called a Tamil diaspora conference but was obviously a clear last ditch effort on behalf of the LTTE." Among those who attended this meeting was veteran American civil rights campaigner, Ref. Jesse Jackson who said that "we (the global community) have a moral obligation to stop the killings" in Sri Lanka, TamilNet reported. Among those who attended this conference were Mike Griffiths, a member of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party, Lord Falconer, former Lord Chancellor, Siobhan McDonaugh, MP, Simon Hughes, MP, Keith Vaz, MP, and Sir Jimmy Savile. According to the TamilNet report, Browne had said that estimating the numbers killed at 70,000 "was probably an understatement." He had also said that civilians must have the freedom to leave the conflict zone ignoring the fact that the LTTE was holding trapped civilians as a human shield and not permitting them to leave. McDonaugh had said that the intention of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown appointing the special envoy (Des Browne) was to focus on the final solution and the humanitarian crisis and expressed disappointment of the British government that Sri Lanka has turned down Browne’s appointment. Browne was reported to have said that the UK did not wish to impose a solution ("that is for the Sri Lankans to decide") adding that like in Northern Ireland ``the only viable solution was political and not military.’’ (Island).

LTTE Catchy Words Running Out of Steam - WITH less than 500 Tigers remaining in their last shrinking Tiger territory in PUTHUKUDIRIPPU, Tigers, still hopeful of a ‘miraculous do-gooder’ to rescue them even at this belated hour, appear to be running amok as the numbers deserting them are fast swelling, almost every hour. Tigers at the initial stage after demarcation of the ‘No Fire Zone’ tried hard to sell the so-called ‘genocide against Tamils’ among the International Community (IC) and the Diaspora. It found illogical expression through various overseas political figures, but failed to bring desired results. Pro-LTTE websites and ad hoc news tubs were hurriedly put into action, and they went on pasting gruesome and heart-breaking photos of dead Tiger siblings and youngsters, purported to be those of the civilians and children in the ‘No Fire Zone’. Simultaneously, LTTE proxies, including those locals in Diyawannawa undertook various trips down to many foreign capitals, urged LTTE mouthpieces and mercenaries to rise up and collectively incited respective foreign government authorities and the general public and Tamil expatriates to resort to protest actions, including fast unto death, self-immolations, etc. (Full report in island).

Govt ropes in Tamil Diaspora - The representatives of the Tamil Diaspora for peace and development activities have expressed their support to the Government in its initiatives in the rehabilitation and reconstruction activities of the North and East, at a top level discussion that began in Mount Lavinia yesterday. Around twenty five representatives from seven countries, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Norway, Germany, Switzerland and France coordinated by Dr. Noel Nadesan of Australia participated at the first ever interaction program between the Government and the Tamil Diaspora, under the theme, ‘Diaspora Dialogue’ - let us join hands for the future development of infrastructure, education, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and other sectors in the North and East. The first session was chaired by the Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama yesterday with the participation of Ministers Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Dew Gunasekera, Member of Parliament and Presidential Advisor, Basil Rajapaksa, Foreign Secretary, Dr. Palitha Kohona and Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga representing the Government. The Tamil group was briefed by the Foreign Minister on the overall situation in the North and East and on the extensive plans to be put forward by the Government to initiate rehabilitation and reconstruction activities. Political, military and the economic aspects of the North and East were also discussed. The representatives who are now in Colombo for the two day discussion were former members of various Tamil militant outfits and moderates who had been voicing against the war and violence in the North and East and pleading for a amicable political solution in the North and East while residing abroad for the past several years (Sunday Observer).

Refusal to meet President: Tamil leaders lambast TNA - The negative response of the Tamil National Alliance to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s invitation for discussion on the prevailing political situation came under fire from leaders of other political parties representing the people of the north and east.TULF leader V. Anandasangaree said “The TNA parliamentarians had missed the opportunity of personally expressing their stance and views with regard to ongoing war in the north, the problems of the people affected by it and what remedial measures they sought.” “In this instance and other similar instances in the past they had acted as LTTE mouthpiece and not as representatives of the people. They have no right to speak of democracy as they were not democratically elected representatives in a free and fair election. “However if they had the interests of the people at heart, they could have made use of the opportunity afforded by the President to bring the problems of the IDPs and the views of the government to the focus of the international community.” Chief Minister Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan when asked to comment said, “TNA parliamentarians had failed in their duty of explaining personally to President Mahinda Rajapaksa the problems of the people whom they claim to represent. Instead of meeting the President they had written a letter to him stating they were not accepting the President’s invitation and had missed the opportunity for a dialouge.” PLOTE leader Dharmalingam Sidharthan: “The International Community including our neighbour India had continued to ask for talks to resolve the current crisis. Instead of meeting the President on his invitation to discuss the issues bilaterally they had written to the President that they did not wish to meet him. If they had met the President and found they could not agree with the stance of the government they could have appealed to the international community.” (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Forces outsmart LTTE Thwart LTTE attempts to reach defences: Last week there was growing international concern about the Sri Lankan situation, especially about the plight of the civilians trapped inside the Safe Zone demarcated by the government for the safety of the civilians, as Security Forces were approaching the borders of the No Fire Zone (NPZ) from all fronts. Many have expressed their fears that the civilians trapped inside the NPZ would be in grave danger once the Security Forces reach its outer perimeter where the LTTE is forcibly holding more than 60,000 civilians as a human shield. The concerns of the international community has led to a proposal to take up the matter at the UN Security Council (UNSC) Session but it was opposed by two permanent members of the UNSC, China and Russia citing that it is an internal matter of Sri Lanka (Full report in Sunday Observer).

TMVP, always with Government - Chief Minister of the Eastern Province and TMVP Leader Sivanesadurai Chandrakanthan said that the TMVP was `part and parcel’ of the UPFA government and they would continue to strengthen the hands of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who had a clear vision to develop the Eastern province and also to sweep away the LTTE from the country. Planning to erase off the word `Puligal’ (Tiger) from his political party, he said in an interview with the Sunday Observer that some political groups had spread rumours that the TMVP was going against the UPFA. “But these are rumours with vested interests”, he said. The former LTTE child soldier, the 33-year-old Chief Minister, who wanted to delay his marriage until he becomes politically stable, said that the TMVP was open to criticism and it had closed all the opportunities for attempts at inculcating the gun culture in the Province.” Tamils hate those who carry guns”, he said. Following are the excerpts of the interview: (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Response to TNA : TNA places no responsibility on LTTE For deaths, injuries and entrapment of civilians: At a meeting convened by the President on Thursday (26) with leaders of parties representing minority communities, at which several Tamil political representatives and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress participated, reference was made to a communication from the leadership of the Tamil National Alliance, dated March 25, which was subsequently released to the media. This letter is carried prominently on many websites, including the plethora of websites that promote separatism, glorify acts of terrorism of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and disseminate propaganda inimical to the interests of the Sri Lankan state and its people. The call by the TNA to halt armed operations by the Security Forces is singularly unfortunate since it results in manipulating the plight of civilians trapped by the LTTE in this tiny sliver of land, to launch a last-ditch effort to save the terrorist leadership and remaining rank and file, which will be the outcome of any letup in the humanitarian operation to free these civilians from the LTTE’s clutches. We note that no allocation of responsibility upon the LTTE, for the entrapment and confinement of these innocent civilians, is made by the TNA. This appears to the Government to be a startling omission (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Yal Devi Express will miss Comrade Pieter Keuneman... - President Mahinda Rajapaksa launching the project - `Yal Devi Friendship Railway Track’ - on Monday recalled that the Yal Devi train was the heartbeat of the nation at that time. Reading the President’s observation which appeared quite sentimental in nature, memories recall to mind, the baptismal words uttered by one of Sri Lanka’s distinguished political legends when the Yal Devi first took off to Jaffna from Colombo in 1956. That legendary politician was none other than the first generation old guard Communist Party stalwart, Pieter Gerald Bartholomeusz Keuneman. He described the Yal Devi train service as the, `life - line of this nation’.Now, with the `Yal Devi Friendship Rail Track’ being mooted for early implementation to unite this fragmented nation, it is appropriate to pay tribute to a legend like Comrade Keuneman who vigorously backed that proposal in the early 1950s and fought for national unity, equal rights for all minorities with adequate power. When the LTTE attacked the Yal Devi train in 1982, it was Comrade Keuneman who led the Communist Party - LSSP delegation to Ward Place to meet late President J.R. Jayewardene to urge the latter to resume the train service at the earliest. All those efforts testify to the concern of Comrade Keuneman towards the protection of a united multi-community nation. Comrade Kueneman was a leading left leader and a prominent political figure who valiantly fought for the official status for Tamil Language from 1956. That materialized after three decades during his life time. This legend of Left politics in Sri Lanka showed the pathway for equality. His life was dedicated to the people of his country. Being a brilliant product of the Cambridge University, Comrade Kueneman joined the Communist Party of Britain in 1937 (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Shifting fortunes - Vote-share arithmetic often prevails over political chemistry in the building of alliances in Tamil Nadu. The Pattali Makkal Katchi, in deciding to ally with the front led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rather than with the grouping headed by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, factored in the winning capability of the alliance more than anything else. As a party enjoying support among sections of the Vanniyar community, a Most Backward Class in Tamil Nadu, the PMK was confident of taking along its vote share to either of the fronts. Beginning with the 1998 Lok Sabha election, the PMK has managed to be on the winning side in every general election, whether to the Lok Sabha or to the State Assembly. PMK founder S. Ramadoss was keen to ensure that there was no blemish on this track record. Thus, although relations between the PMK and the DMK had been strained for the last couple of years, their leaders were in negotiations over sharing of seats until the very end. Indeed, PMK leaders were talking to both the DMK and the AIADMK at the same time. While the number of seats on offer and the identification of constituencies did figure in the calculations of Dr. Ramadoss, what tilted the scales was the growing realisation that his party together with the Left parties, the AIADMK, and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) could make a formidable combination. Ideological affinity did not turn out to be a decisive factor in alliance-formation, though the Sri Lankan Tamils issue was a major concern for the PMK. Even before the party took the decision, both the fronts already had within themselves constituents with very different positions on the issue. The Tamil chauvinist Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, which took a stridently pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) stance, was part of the DMK-led alliance that had the Congress as a major constituent. Similarly, while the AIADMK took a tough line against the LTTE, one of its allies, the MDMK, toed a pro-LTTE line (Full report in Sunday Observer).

SL Mission rounds off on success note - The Sri Lankan delegation led by Mahinda Samarasinghe, Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister successfully participated in the tenth session of the UN Human Rights Council which concluded its 4-week long session on March 27 in Geneva. Proactive engagement - The Sri Lankan delegation's proactive engagement with all stakeholders ensured that heavy pro-LTTE lobbying as well as a two-pronged attempt by a few EU members to secure a statement in the Council on the situation in Sri Lanka by the High Commissioner for Human Rights or the Council's President, proved abortive. During the sessions, the Sri Lankan delegation successfully countered adverse references made to the Sri Lanka situation made by a few delegations representing certain developed Western countries and several non-governmental organizations, as well as by several pro-LTTE activists who were present at the UN, lobbying heavily against ongoing military operations in the Wanni. During both formal presentations and informal interactions, the Sri Lankan delegation clearly emphasized to other delegations that ongoing military operations were being carried out by the security forces in accordance with norms of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, and that such actions were necessary to eliminate terrorism and protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka. The delegation that accompanied the Minister during the High Level Segment of the Council comprised Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Mohan Peiris, P.C., Attorney-General, Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights, and Dr. Rohan Perera, P.C. Deputy Solicitor-General, Yasantha Kodagoda subsequently replaced the Attorney-General (Full report in Sunday Observer).

New role for Tamil Diaspora - No terror group can exist without a substantial quantum of foreign funding. Such funds are vital for arms, logistics, food supplies, training facilities, propaganda and recruitment. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, now in their death throes deep in the Wanni, are no exception to this rule. Over the years, the Tigers, one of the most internationally networked terror groups in the world, have formed a worldwide funding mechanism for their terror operations. One of the most vital components of that fund-raising mechanism is the Tamil Diaspora around the world. Nearly one million Tamil civilians migrated to Canada, Australia, US, UK, France, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and several other countries following the Black July of 1983. The Tigers found a goldmine in these expatriates. While sections of the Tamil Diaspora voluntarily funded the Tigers, the others who were reluctant to open their wallets for the terror coffers faced "intimidation, extortion and even violence to ensure a steady flow of funds for operations in Sri Lanka and to suppress criticism of human rights abuses". (Human Rights Watch Report on Funding the Final War, 2006). Those who had relatives back home in Sri Lanka were especially vulnerable. People were told that if they did not pay the requested sum, they would not be able to return to Sri Lanka to visit family members. Others were warned that they would be dealt with or "taught a lesson." The LTTE also operated several front organisations that masqueraded as cultural entities to collect funds from the diaspora. So-called Heroes Day events were also used to raise funds. In fact, it has been estimated that the LTTE raised 90 percent of its funds outside Sri Lanka (Full report in Sunday Observer).

The Nationalist Papers Never a Commonwealth, only a Common Thief - by Malinda Seneviratne - McDonagh laments that the Sri Lankan Government has been ‘incredibly successful at propaganda’: ‘The hon. Members in the Chamber would be amazed by the number of people who want nothing to do with the matter (of expelling Sri Lanka from the Commonwealth) and do not want to talk about it. They believe that the Tigers are terrorists and therefore they are not willing to engage on the issue’. The lady implies that the LTTE is not a terrorist organization and that if not for the propaganda of the Sri Lankan Government, there would be no ban on the LTTE! Let her do a quick Google search on the following: a) Rajiv Gandhi b) Arantalawa, c) Kebithigollewa, d) Mavil Aru, e) suicide bomb, f) cyanide capsule, g) suicide kits, h) transborder terrorism, i) TELO, and j) Lakshman Kadirgamar for starters (Full report in Sunday Island).

A patient hearing to families who sacrificed - The war is fast coming to an end in the north. The terrorist group was beaten in their own game by the valiant members of the three armed forces, some of them had made the supreme sacrifice to liberate the country from the grip of the blood-thirsty LTTE. Yet behind the scene, unseen, suspense, anxiety and anguish of the families of the valiant soldiers, sailors and airmen of the three forces, another poignant chapter in the armed conflict remained. In the past it was said that not enough attention had been paid to these members of civil society drawn often from the villages but the picture had changed very much. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa with the blessings of President takes time off from his very heavy duties at the Ministry to visit the wounded or disabled soldiers and also meet the families of the three armed forces men and women who had laid down their lives for the country. Recently Gotabhaya Rajapaksa visited Boyagane Infantry Regiment camp and met the families of soldiers who had sacrificed their lives for the country. He said these men and women had been able to debunk the theory that the LTTE was an invincible terrorist group but we should remember that it was our duty to protect the land they had liberated. We owed those valiant soldiers, a duty to protect the liberated land and that was the greatest tribute we could pay to them (Full report in Sunday Observer).

More than 2,000 flee Sri Lanka war zone - More than 2,100 civilians fled in one day from Sri Lanka's northern war zone where the military is squeezing the Tamil Tiger rebels into a smaller area as it pushes to end 25 years of civil war, the military said Friday. The displaced, including 900 children, crossed over Thursday to military-controlled areas in Puthkkudiyirippu, near the edge of the front lines in the northeast of the island, said military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara. It was the largest number of civilians to flee in a single day in several weeks, Nanayakkara said. An average of 1,000 civilians a day have fled the area in recent weeks, highlighting the danger they face as the military has driven the rebels into just 8.4 square miles (21 square kilometers) of jungle and beach on the northeastern coast. In a statement posted on its Web site Friday, the military said it killed 29 rebels. It said 13 were killed in a battle near Puthkkudiyirippu, while army snipers killed another 16. It did not say when the clashes took place. The area on the coast includes a so-called "no-fire" zone, but the United Nations and aid groups have accused the rebels of firing from the zone and of forcing tens of thousands of terrified civilians to go with them, sometimes using them as human shields (Full report in Express Buzz).

Nadesan: Leading the Architects of Sandcastles towards the Beach - by Hemantha Abeywardena writes from London….. - Mr B Nadesan, the political head of the LTTE, did embark upon the most difficult task of his career last week – contradicting everything he had said a few weeks ago - while displaying an essential trait of the Tamil Tigers – the absence of a trace of remorse for doing so. He begged of the international community to broker a ceasefire and emphasized the plea by punctuating it with incompatible adjectives such as loud and clear. The outcome, as usual, was a foregone conclusion; the appeal landed on deaf ears. The intended audience have had enough of these monologues. If the rise of Mr Nadesan in the LTTE hierarchy is not classified as meteoric, it certainly is an insult to both the ex-Tiger police chief and our distant celestial giants, where some of the meteors are said to be originating from. He used to be a police constable at a police station in Colombo in the early ‘80’s and the Cupid struck him and the then fiancée, a Sinhalese maiden from Matara, a district in southern Sri Lanka – the very region his husband fights tooth and nail against– most probably while they were at work. So, the Nadesans got married, settled in Wanni and produced the offspring which carries the genes of both races. However, the stance taken by their children on the ethnic issue is not clear; at least they have the privilege of making their mind up, as they do not appear to be living in Wanni. Mr Nadesan became the Inspector General of the Tamil Eelam police, bypassing all the lower ranks below that; cynics – Mr Nadeson is not short of them – say it is more to do with his blood relationship to the commander-in-chief, Velupillai Prabhakaran, than his policing skills, implying the presence of tentacles of nepotism in the organization, which claims to be fighting against all forms of discrimination. We have to wait until the full liberation of the Tamil civilians, to know how successful the police chief has been in policing, the area that came under his purview (Full report in Asian Tribune).

If there is a genuine love for the Tamil people all political parties representing them should attend this meeting which had been convened to discuss about their welfare, said the President. Joker Jackson swallows Tiger bait - Another American politician has joined the LTTE-Bruce Fein gang. He is former Presidential (Democratic Party) Candidate, Rev. Jesse Jackson. Either he has swallowed Tiger propaganda bait hook, line and sinker or he has been bought over by the Tamil separatists. Jackson is the clown who insulted U.S. President Barack Obama during last year’s American Presidential campaign and later apologized for his "crude and hurtful" remarks he made about Obama after an interview with a Fox News correspondent (Full report in Sinhela Net).

Confession by Prabhakaran to Tamil Diaspora - Dear Tamil Diaspora  I am thankful and grateful to my Tamil Diaspora  for having trust on me and supported me and my LTTE for the last 26 years. I am grateful to you for financially, logistically and in propaganda supporting LTTE over the past 26 years. If not for your support my gang would have been just a rag tag outfit. It is your unstinted support in every way that made LTTE financially powerful than a corporate giant and rag tag into a conventional army.  When comparing with other terrorist groups ours is the only one who had a fleet of commercial ships ( 6 ships were bombed and sunk by bloody armed forces), variety of businesses and shop fronts in many parts of the world for our various activities. The Singala chauvinists and some so called experts on terrorism makes false statements to the effect that we are involved in illegal activities like procuring illegal arms, smuggling narcotics and human cargo etc. In our struggle, there is nothing called illegal. FBI branded my LTTE the deadliest and ruthless terrorist outfit in the world  and I am proud of that being the sole owner of LTTE outfit and I am sure you are also proud of it because it was you who made it happen. It’s with your strategies and your skills that helped LTTE to procure arms legal or illegal is subjective including heavy artillery, latest war technology and communication systems, smuggling assembly plants for light air crafts, mini submarines, suicide sea scooters and you name it we had it. It’s the very dollar and sterling pound that forcibly collected and or voluntary given that made our LTTE to fight the Sri Lankan Government for a separate Eelam for  you and me and for the future Tamil generation for 26 long years.I must specifically thank the Tamil Diaspora who were directly involved in buying politicians, State officials, Officials in influential human rights organizations and VIPs in many countries to speak for our cause. You did that job well and I would plead you to continue the good work. I’ll be a bastard if I don’t specially thank Mr. Eric Solheim of Norway and the Norway government and Mr. Ranil Wickemasinghe for initiating the CFA, demarcating borders for LTTE controlled areas by Ranil, exposing us the spy  list of the infamous Athurugiriya Intelligence unit which I finally dealt with and you know how. Thanks for CFA which Tamil Diaspora is also responsible for working on that where we could smuggle all types of war machinery and materials, sophisticated communication equipments, heavy artillery, light aircrafts and mini submarines in parts in parts. The help we received from the then government officials in the aviation Dept and Customs is gratefully acknowledged as it helped us to consolidate our war position during the CFA was in operation with all the sophisticated weaponry (read full in SPUR).

TNA places no responsibility on LTTE for deaths, injuries and entrapment of Tamil civilians - At a meeting convened by His Excellency the President on Thursday (26) with leaders of parties representing minority communities, at which several Tamil political representatives and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress participated, reference was made to a communication from the leadership of the Tamil National Alliance, dated 25 March, which was subsequently released to the media. This letter is carried prominently on many websites, including the plethora of websites that promote separatism, glorify acts of terrorism of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and disseminate propaganda inimical to the interests of the Sri Lankan state and its people. The call by the TNA to halt armed operations by the Security Forces is singularly unfortunate since it results in manipulating the plight of civilians trapped by the LTTE in this tiny sliver of land, to launch a last-ditch effort to save the terrorist leadership and remaining rank and file, which will be the outcome of any letup in the humanitarian operation to free these civilians from the LTTE's clutches. We note that no allocation of responsibility upon the LTTE, for the entrapment and confinement of these innocent civilians, is made by the TNA. This appears to the Government to be a startling omission (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

LTTE casualties mount in last-ditch fighting at Puthukkudiyirippu - At least 26 LTTE terrorists were killed and over 30 injured in yesterday's (March 27) fighting ensued with Sri Lankan security forces in the eastern fringes of Puthukkudiyirippu and Karaiyamullivaikal, military sources reported. Successive attempts made by LTTE to engage concentrated assaults at the military forward defences North of Iranapalai and East of Puthukudiyirippu were comprehensively neutralized battlefront sources reported adding that sporadic fighting and small scale door-to-door operations are continuing in the area targeting enemy pockets and resistance positions. Despite its successive set backs at the Mullaittivu battlefront LTTE is continuing shelling artillery barrages and mortar from the government declared No Fire Zone, which has also increased the number of injuries among those civilians fleeing from LTTE hostage, security sources said. Meanwhile, ground sources, quoting intercepted LTTE communication and civilian escapees from the No Fire Zone said, LTTE had conducted funerals for a few of its senior cadres killed in the battlefront in recently fighting (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

'War Zone Toronto': Canadians worry on surge of pro-LTTE gangs - 'What do you expect two hundred and twenty six gangs and members of banned terrorist groups to do? Kill, kill randomly, harm innocent people, steal, extort money from innocent people and make a city a war zone. That is exactly what is happening here in Toronto. With 226 gangs operating in the city and members of banned terrorist groups such as the LTTE, better known here as the Tamil Tigers roaming the city and openly hero worshipping suicide terrorist cadres who kill innocent Sri Lankans back home' states Toronto Diary unfolding the web of tragedy affecting thousands of innocent Sri Lankan expatriates and peace loving people, residing in Canada refusing to toe LTTE's line of separatism and violence. 'Reports say that the Canadian government is going to amend the criminal code to target organized crime, illicit drugs since a consensus is developing that the country should be tougher. Everyday we hear of innocent people getting killed for no fault of their own. Even children and women. These random killings are the worst and law enforcement authorities have not had much success in bringing them to justice and very soon Canada will have a funeral TV too. The Government had given the licence to operate a Funeral TV here' the paper further reiterated on the worsening humanitarian status in Canada. Following are excerpts of the report from the Toronto Diary (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Pakiyasothy outraged in questioning financial misappropriation of NGO funds- London - Dr. Pakiyasothy Saravanamuttu, alias 'Sara' as well know in the Colombo night circles and the executive director of the Center for Policy Alternative(CPA), a heavily Western funded NGO went outraged when questions were raised on misappropriation of NGO funds, moments before a Chatham House roundtable discussion in London. The usually academic like Saravanamuttu, lost his cool and was calling Douglas Wickramaratne, President of UK's Sri Lankan Association "below his dignity" and "contemptible" for dragging in the financial misappropriation of CPA (the NGO) where his side kicks former Free Media Movement(FMM) Chief organiser, Sunanda Deshapriya and Secretary Poddala Jayantha have admitted the charge and resigned. Saravanamuttu was angry and said that this issue of misappropriation should not have been brought into this forum at all. He would have, among other things, very embarrassed that this was mentioned in front of those liberals who were filling the seats at the round table. Mr. Douglas Wickramaratne in all calmness said, "It is generally accepted in Sri Lanka that the last people who want permanent peace in the country are the NGO's as the hierarchy of those organizations enjoyed a luxury life-style earning millions of Rupees a month (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

President challenges LTTE to free civilians and face the military - President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday called upon all Tamil parties to join him to obtain the democratic rights to the people of the North. He challenged the LTTE to release all civilians they are using as a shield and fight in the open. The President was addressing a special meeting he held with all Tamil and Muslim political parties. The Tamil National Alliance, the largest Tamil political party, which has 22 representatives in Parliament, failed to respond to the President’s invitation for the meeting, apparently in fear of LTTE reprisals, it was revealed at the meeting. President Rajapaksa said that despite their claim that they are the saviours of the Tamil people, the LTTE is keeping them as human shield for its own protection. He also said the security forces are behaving in a very humanitarian manner and providing shelter and protection to the Northern Tamils fleeing from the LTTE held areas. Democratic rule will be a fact in the North before long. Representatives of the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) said there were enough food stocks available in the liberated areas in the Vanni and that it was satisfied with the manner the security forces were treating the civilians who arrived in Vavuniya and Mannar from the LTTE held areas. The President said that it was the duty of the Government to provide all essential requirements including food and medicine to all citizens of the country (Full report in Island).

PAKIYASOTHY SARAVANAMUTTU LOSES HIS COOL WHEN FINANCIAL MISAPPROPRIATION OF HIS NGO IS MENTIONED IN LONDON

'Dancing to the Tiger Tune with misappropriated NGO funds'. A Colombo "Victim Industry" chief caught with his pants down....

By Walter Jayawardhana - Moments before a Chatham House roundtable discussion in London Dr. Pakiya sothy Saravanamuttu , the executive director of the Center for Policy Alternative, a heavily Western funded NGO was jubilant. He asked me, “Isn’t it unusual for the British parliamentarians to take up Sri Lanka many times during the last few months”. He was here in London probably to meet some of those parliamentarians. When I repeated his question to Douglas Wickramaratne , who was seated next to me at the round table to listen to Pakiyasothy Saravanamuttu, Wickramaratne, President of UK’s Sinhala Association said there is nothing unusual about it. British parliament is the only legislature where there is a parliamentary group for Tamils, and many have been repeating well hacked slogans of the Tamil Tigers like “Genocide” – a notoriously unsubstantiated statement only of cheap propagandist value. Many of them seem to be dependent on about 100,000 Tamils settled in London for their votes. It is being led by a Goanese British parliamentarian, now being investigated for his sleazy behaviour. The London Daily Mail recently accused of “grotesque abuse of his position” in helping a convicted conman and having received “lavish hospitality” from him, he said. The relationship of Vaz and London’s LTTE is not well known, except that he parrot-like repeats many Prabhakaran slogans (Read full report).

OPEN LETTER TO HER EXCELLENCY XIUPING YANG WELCOME TO YOUR FRIENDLY COUNTRY SRI LANKA - By Stanley Perera from Melbourne - My dear Chinese Ambassador Xiuping Yang, - Welcome to your friendly country Sri Lanka. China has been a true friend to Sri Lanka for many years. When Sri Lanka was faced with the threat of invasion by Indira Gandhi in the 1980s, it was only Sri Lanka’s friendly country China said to India to back off. If not to-day Sri Lanka is broken in to two states with Sri Lanka’s north and east annexed to India’s Tamil Nadu State. This week China stopped UNSC discussing Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. We Sri Lankans are happy that Sri Lanka is not without friends in need. We salute you for the favours. These two friendly gestures of our friend China is written in Golden Words in Sri Lanka’s history. We are proud to say that it is with the help of China that my country Sri Lanka has been able to wipe out the terrorism from our country not forgetting to mention our friend Pakistan. China has been very helpful to Sri Lanka in its aid to develop Sri Lanka. The Supreme Court complex, Bandaranayake International Conference Centre and the numerous development projects that are in progress are your aid packages to our country. China is a big strength to Sri Lanka. We Sri Lankans remember China as our true and friend in need. Yours faithfully, Stanley Perera, Melbourne, Australia. (LanakWeb).

Blame LTTE for civilians’ plight: UN, US, Britain urge pause in fighting - The United Nations, backed by Britain and the United States, on Thursday pressed for a “humanitarian pause” in strife-torn Sri Lanka and blamed the Tigers for the plight of trapped civilians. United Nations humanitarian Chief John Holmes told reporters after an informal UN Security Council briefing that his main concern “is the civilian population trapped in the combat area and not being allowed out by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam).” He added that he was pressing for urgent humanitarian access to the combat area in northern Sri Lanka. “We suggested the idea of some kind of humanitarian pause to allow that to happen and to allow the civilian population to leave,” he said. “This is an extremely worrying situation and therefore, our first appeal to the LTTE is to let the civilians out in a safe and orderly fashion.” Rosemary DiCarlo, a senior US delegate to the UN, also voiced her government’s “deep concern at the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka” and slammed the LTTE, which she pointedly recalled is viewed by Washington as a terrorist organization. “We certainly condemn the fact that they (LTTE) use civilians as human shields ... We call on them to lay down their arms, renounce violence and negotiate with the government,” she added. DiCarlo also chided Colombo for continuing to shell areas heavily populated by civilians. She said Washington had urged Colombo to cease the shelling and had received promises. “But we need to see results,” she added, urging the Sri Lankan government to “pay more attention to protecting the civilian population.” Her British counterpart John Sawers also blamed the LTTE for the plight of civilians in the north of the country. “It is the LTTE which is preventing them from doing so (leaving the combat area),” he said. “We condemn their action in that regard. We call on both parties to respect humanitarian law, cease use of heavy weapons and to everything to protect civilian lives.” Sri Lanka’s UN ambassador H.M.G.S. Palihakkara said his government shared concern about the fate of civilians, and noted that Colombo had declared a 48-hour ceasefire period. He accused the LTTE of preventing the civilians from leaving. “If the LTTE is ready to let them go today, my government will agree to a modality, a pause,” the envoy said. “The quickest way to end the conflict is for the LTTE to lay down their arms and let these people move.” In Colombo Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the LTTE had lost more of their territory in northern Sri Lanka and their total defeat was now “imminent.” The Security Forces have confined the LTTE to a very small area most of which is a government-declared safe zone, said Rambukwella. “Therefore, it is apparent that the LTTE are now on the brink of defeat,” he said (Daily News).

YOU ARE NOT LISTENING OPEN LETTER TO GORDON BROWN YOU ARE NOT LISTENING - By Stanley Perera from Melbourne - My dear Gordon, You have given 24 hours to Sri Lanka to cease fire. Gordon are we to take you serious or take you as a joke? Why go and join up with others to warn my country Sri Lanka? Haven’t you got a back bone to say it alone? If Sri Lanka did not cease fire within 24 hours what action would you take? Sri Lanka has already given you two raspberries. One to share with your first special envoy and the other to share with your second special envoy to Sri Lanka. The third one this time is to keep it with you. Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Fiji have given you with enough and more raspberries. Your pockets are full and you don’t need them anymore. Gordon, you don’t seem to be listening to us. If you want to please those three hundred thousand bogus Tamil refugees you and the church I belong to brought in to UK to fill your electorates, please make sure that it is not at the expense of my country Sri Lanka. What are you actually implying for? Why a cease fire now that the war is already over. The terrorists are confined to a block of land to the size of your back yard. You may stand on your head and cry your eyes out; we are determined this time to finish off the last terrorist from my country. No matter how hard those terrorist supported INGOs, NGOs, your biased BBC, and allother UNO paracites like Pillai and Radhika women with Alan Rock who are in the LTTE payroll try, I must tell Brown there is not going to be a cease fire until we have eradicated the LTTE terrorist menace. You know very well Gordon those terrorist were made in India and been nurtured by you over the years (Full letter in LanakWeb).

LTTE Has To Free Civilians & Discuss Modalities For Weapons Surrender : Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador HMGS Palihakkara, told members of the Security Council that there is general agreement, both nationally and internationally, that the only way to bring an end to this terminal phase of the conflict is for the LTTE to free the civilians and to discuss modalities for surrendering weapons and cadres. But there will be no unverifiable and unenforceable ceasefires, he told delegates at an informal closed-door interactive discussion on the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka.. The Co-chairs have said it. The United Nations has said it. The neighboring countries have said it. Many members of the Security Council have said it. And so has Lakdhar Brahimi, a former special envoy of the Secretary-General, who expressed his views last week in an op ed piece in the International Herald Tribune, pointing out that the LTTE, overwhelmed by government forces, "has lost". Holding civilian hostages and showing complete disregard for the Tamil population that it claims to want to liberate will not resurrect the LTTE's ability to fight this war, Brahimi warned. Palihakkara was equally pointed in his criticism of LTTE for holding thousands of civilians as hostages. The LTTE must see reality and act accordingly. he said. The security forces are confident that they can seek and capture or destroy the remaining arsenals without harming civilians as civilians now begin to move out of this area in increasing numbers. Since Sri Lanka was not on the Security Council agenda, the interactive discussion was held outside the formal structure of the Council. Symbolic of this status, the discussions were held outside the Security Council chamber. Ambassador John Sawers of Britain clarified to reporters that Sri Lanka ''was not on the formal agenda of the Security Council" and therefore would not warrant any intervention by the Council (Asian Tribune).

Godapitiya suicide killer’s fiancé caught - Police said the the fiancé of the suicide bomber of Godapitiya, Akuressa was nabbed at Maradana. According to a senior police officer, the young woman Ambiga from Jaffna had admitted she was a member in the armed wing of the LTTE and said she had met her fiance at a training camp at Kilinochchi in 1994. We are concerned about our brethren in the north who had to undergo untold hardships at the hands of their so-called saviours -the LTTE. With this new year gifts we take to the north the love of the people in the south,” Deputy Minister Premasiri said. This is another way the to help the government’s welfare programme for IDPs and the humanitarian operations of the armed forces who sacrifice human and material resources to liberate the north from the clutches of the LTTE, he said (Daily Mirror).

A press release issued by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs said: “Bogollagama pointed out the steps being taken to expand political pluralism especially in the north which had been long denied and said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was meeting with Tamil political parties towards achieving this end. He said that the Government had a public mandate to end terrorism in the country. But while internally the government might end terrorism he sought support from the region and outside it because of the LTTE could mushroom elsewhere and there is a need to guard against it in the long term. Minister Bogollagama told the Thai Prime Minister that this was a good time to discuss the expansion of trade relations between the two countries. He said there were many areas where they could cooperate (Full report in Daily News).

President says Jaffna elections soon - President Mahinda Rajapaksa has told representatives of the Tamil and Muslim political parties that elections to local bodies in the Jaffna district will be held soon, a Tamil leader said. The matter was discussed at Thursday’s Temple Trees talks where the President met Tamil and Muslim political parties that included the Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), the EPDP and the SLMC. The TNA was also invited for the talks but had laid down several conditions if it were to attend. DTNA General Secretary and TULF leader V. Anandasangari had reportedly emphasized the need to ensure freedom for the people living in the district and the President had responded saying he would take steps to conduct the local government election in the province soon but he did not mention a specific time frame. The local government election was last held in Jaffna in 1998 after the area was liberated from LTTE control. On that occasion TULF led by Mr. Anandasangari won the election to the Jaffna Municipal Council but tragically Ms. Sarojani Yogeswaram who was elected as the Jaffna Mayor was allegedly assassinated by the LTTE that same year. In a subsequent tragedy her successor K. Sivapalan was also killed in a bomb blast in Jaffna and later parliamentarian N. Raviraj who acted as the Jaffna Mayor for some time also died at the hands of unidentified assassins in Colombo (Daily Mirror).

Two TMVP cadres gunned down - Two TMVP cadres, K. Ashok and T. Mohandas, both in their twenties, were shot dead on Thursday night at their office in Annamalai in the Chavalakadai Police area in Ampara. TMVP sources attributed the killing to the LTTE. Sources also said the party is now contemplating Police protection for their offices since several similar incidents had occurred in the recent past. In many such past incidents LTTE cadres who infiltrated the TMVP offered to guard their offices and had later killed the TMVP members and taken away their weapons. Chavalakadai Police are conducting investigations (Island).

Thailand to arrest LTTE activities - Thailand has assured Sri Lanka that it would not allow terrorists to operate in the region and would arrest all LTTE activists found on its soil. This assurance was given by Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama during a short meeting at the Thai Parliament. He requested Sri Lanka to provide information to the Thai authorities on the LTTE’s criminal activities such as arms smuggling, the narcotics trade, human trafficking and money laundering. It was in "all our interests" to end terrorism, the Thai PM said. Minister Bogollagama was on a one-day bilateral visit to Thailand and met with his Thai counterpart Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon. Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon reiterating his prime minister’s assurance said Thailand will not allow the country to be used as a launching pad for LTTE terrorism (Island).

Development projects implemented while fighting terrorism - GL -  "In the past some groups predicted that we will not get the GSP+. But we were able to get this tax concession from the European Union. The government is implementing development projects and at the same time it is eliminating terrorism. Development activities such as power projects, flyovers, rail services to the North and the East, expressways and creation of new jobs are taking place. The President and the Government has taken steps to ensure that developmental activities continue even while a war is fought," Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G. L. Peiris said at the opening ceremony of the main operations office of Western Province election, Zone 2 at No. 46 Sunethra Devi Mawatha, Kohuwala (full report in Island).

Beware of saboteurs - President - President Mahinda Rajapaksa urged the nation to be vigilant of those who would seek to grab power at any cost, even by plunging the country to total economic chaos and bankruptcy. The President gave this warning when he addressed the Ada Wawamu Pelayak - Heta Nelamu Palayak (Will Plant a Tree Today and Harvest its Product Tomorrow) campaign launching ceremony at Temple Trees yesterday. The program which is under the auspices of the Co-operatives Movement, seeks to ensure future food security of the land as envisioned in the Mahinda Chintana. It plans to plant 2,000,000 fruit-producing plants islandwide, on April 14, at an auspicious time. President Rajapaksa stated that notwithstanding the assurances given by the Government that they would not in any way bow down to conditions stipulated by the international donor agencies such as the IMF, to obtain monetary assistance, some unscrupulous elements may still continue their smear campaigns and agitate opposite banks in protest, or despatch e-mails to the relevant agencies. They would fabricate baseless, misleading and contradictory views and demand from them, to refrain from extending any such assistance, in order to deprive their motherland, of international assistance. “While the LTTE terrorists blast bombs, cause carnage and retain the innocent and starving civilians entrapped as human shields, in the North, those opportunistic elements in the South, would seek to see the light of the day, and clinch power, at any cost, even by falsified political policies (Daily News)..
