* Over 68,000 civilians fled to cleared areas in Sri Lanka

Apr 16, Colombo: The total number of civilians who have fled from LTTE held 'no fire zone' in Mullaitivu has reached to 68,047, the Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat said.

These Internally Displaced persons are being sheltered in temporary camps in Vavuniya. More shelters are being constructed to accommodate the increasing number of civilians who cross over into the cleared areas.

A spokesman for the Secretariat said that a land of one-thousand acres in Settikulam, in Vavuniya will be allocated to accommodate more civilians, with the assistance from the UNHCR and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Services.
