Jan 19, Colombo: Troops engaged in clearing operations in Dharmapuram have found a heavily fortified underground facility with steel doors believed to be a hideout for the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Media Center for National Security reported.

The facility built in the middle of civilian houses was covered with cadjan leaves to disguise it as another civilian hut. The structure contained a spiral stairway to a basement constructed with thick concrete slabs and steel doors at the entrance.

MCNS said there was an armour plated container with air conditioning facility placed near the surface entrance of the bunker.

Meanwhile, troops of the 57 Division engaged in clearing operations in the Mullaitivu jungles have found a wreckage of an aircraft yesterday near the 6th airstrip discovered on Friday (17). Troops believe the plane may have been used by the LTTE for training purposes.
