Professional counselling for those kept as LTTE hostages

Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry officials have discovered that the people who had been kept as hostages by the LTTE suffer from severe psychological trauma due to various hardships they faced in the hands of the LTTE.

The Ministry will offer them professional counselling shortly, Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry sources said.

Sources said that Ministry officials had recently toured Visuamadu and all the other welfare camps set up for the people escaping from LTTE clutches and inspected the medical assistance and health care services made available to them. The mental frustration of the people who have lost their entire wealth, belongings and risked their lives escaping from the LTTE is visible.

They will stay at the special villages set up for them with all the facilities and will lead a normal life. According to the people who have come to the camps, they did not have facilities to wash their faces and brush their teeth when they were kept as human shield by the LTTE.
