LTTE terrorists now trying to prevent civilians moving towards Security Forces-held areas on many early occasions fired at the civilians.

However, some male civilian in the exodus have manage to bring three dead bodies of their friends and relatives to the cleared areas of VISUAMADU amidst continuing LTTE fire.

Three more civilians have also been severely injured during the same incident.

A total of 4701 civilians arrived in the cleared areas on the Sunday

The latest statistics on civilians rescued from the terror clutches in Wanni reveal that 10501 civilians belonging to more than 1500 families have given refuge since the first of this month.

According to the defence sources in Wanni and Jaffna, over 10000 civilians have come to Kilinochchi while 139 others have come to Jaffna since the National Independence Day (Feb 4). Among the rescued civilians are over 2800 children and about 3000 women, the sources add.

Arrangements have been made at the frontlines to provide immediate medical care and refreshments to the civilians seeking refuge with the security forces. Also, transportation of the patients to the hospitals and others to civilian welfare centers elsewhere is provided by the security forces.

A senior defence official explaining about the sudden increase of civilians escaping the terrorist clutches in Wanni said it is a result of a well-planned rescue mission launched by the security forces.

"We have planned to meet these circumstances since the inception of the current phase of operations. We knew that the terrorists would resort to their cowardly tactic of hiding behind a human shield"

"Army maneuvers have been planned and executed with great care in order increase the opportunity of the civilians to get out of the human shield. Navy deployments have been changed with more boats assigned for search and rescue mission for those civilians taking see route to flee LTTE clutches. As a result the terrorist barricades against civilian movements have been weakening and more and mote escape routes have been opened for the civilians to come out of the human shield", he said.

"Like all our other maneuvers in this operation against terrorism, this rescue mission is also well planned and executed by the professionals. Indeed we have proven the zero civilians casualty policy of ours is not just another term but something that can be practiced...but it needs a great deal of professionalism on the part of the armed forces" , he added.

Civilian accounts give lie to the UN reports on civilian casualties in Sri Lanka

Information provided by the civilians escaping from LTTE held human shield in Wanni clashes with the UN reports on civilian casualties of war in Sri Lanka, authoritative sources reveal.

According to the sources, civilians have denied all reports of artillery firing, or aerial bombardment at the no fire zone or any of the hospitals in the area by armed forces. Also, they have confirmed that there were no civilian casualties for which the armed forces are responsible. However, they have revealed that all government hospitals have been piled up with LTTE casualties whom are treated by the government medical staff with the medicine provided by the Ministry of Health.

The sources say it is obvious that the UN officials have been mislead by the LTTE propagandists planted in various local and international non-governmental organizations acting in sympathy to the terrorists. The UN officials must be counting ever-increasing LTTE deaths and casualty figures as civilians and releasing these baseless reports for the satisfaction of the terror sympathisers, the sources further said.

Meanwhile, the defence sources in the battlefield too confirmed heavy terrorist deaths and casualties during recent clashes. Many of the LTTE cadres currently fighting on the warfront are in civilian attire so that the outfit can mislead the world that civilians were attacked when its cadres got killed or wounded in action.

With well known capability of the LTTE terrorists to engineer human sufferings to win international sympathy, the defence.lk are in the view that organizations which are supposed be responsible like UN, should consider all possible circumstances before releasing damaging reports to a democratically elected government. Otherwise, brutal terrorist organizations like the LTTE will continue to take the UN as well as the other global human rights champions for a ride until the whole world is plagued with terrorism.
