The United States' top intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) says that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the most dangerous and deadly extremist organization in the world. The official website of FBI in its tops story said that LTTE is far more dangerous terrorists outfit than al Queda, Hezbullah or even HAMAS. Read more...

Tamil Tiger Terror has come to door steps of Australia........... Ban LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists in       Australia Under the Criminal Code Act 1995 ...... Ban LTTE Tamil Tiger       Terrorists in Australia Under the Criminal Code Act 1995 ......

Current Significant Issues

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a blood thirsty racist group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Government of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo in peace with the other communities. Based on 2001 census, the Tamil population in Colombo district is 12.1% (see 2001 census). So, who is discriminated ? Tamils or Sinhalese? Do you need more evidence ?

Are we serious about a solution based on Indo-Lanka Accord ?

Read more about the 13th Amendment

13th Amendment ........

The ordinary Tamil people don’t care about 13 or 17 amendments. What the ordinary Tamils want is to get on with their day to day life, get on with their agri work in the field, chena, sea, or in the offices and live a peaceful life which they experienced before 1983. We never thought of discrimination, aspiration, grievances before 1983. It was the politicians who planted these poisonous seeds into our hearts and minds. Grievances are there not only for the Tamils but even to the poor Sinhalese people in the South. That’s common to any nationality.

See what LTTE did for the Tamil civilians trying to flee the "Human Shield" of the LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists

Caution: Images shown on this web site exposing LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorist atrocities maybe disturbing for some users. Please proceed at your own discretion.

“Tamil Tigers”, also called “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam” (LTTE) declare that they are fighting the government of Sri Lanka to “liberate” the Tamils. During the past three decades of their “liberation struggle” they forcibly abducted an estimated twenty thousand children as young as ten and converted them into human bombs or cannon fodder. Tamil parents who objected to the forcible conscription of their beloved children were tortured or killed in front of their families. Finally, after seven futile attempts at internationally facilitated peace talks and ceasefires, all of which were reneged by the LTTE, the democratically elected Sri Lankan government decided that the only way to liberate the Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE was to eradicate the oppressors. Sri Lanka learned the hard way that any “ceasefire” interval given to these abominable terrorists would be used by them to recuperate, regroup, rearm and attack without warning. Tigers, once the world’s most feared terrorists, are now confined to a few square kilometres of jungle where they have corralled innocent Tamil civilians to be used as human shields. If not for the Sri Lankan government’s concern for the safety of civilians, the LTTE would have been wiped out from the face of earth many moons ago. Tigers make sure that those who try to escape into government declared safe zones are mercilessly killed, mostly burnt alive and the corpses are displayed as a deterrent to others who would try to escape. These photos were taken by a brave Tamil who managed to escape to a safe zone only last week (Read full report).

The monies that have been collected by TD for LTTE war ....

The monies that have been collected by Tamil Diaspora for LTTE war chest runs into billion of dollars during the past three decades. But, where are we now? What have Tamils achieved over the years? Tamils have earned nothing but humiliation and misery. There times I am ashamed to call myself a Tamil to avoid humiliation as Tamils are branded as a set of terrorists.

Indian intervention in Sri Lankan internal affairs

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now .....

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now that LTTE’s days are numbered and any funds collected for LTTE will benefit only Pirapaharan and his top LTTE hierarchy. Pirapaharan educated his son with your money. His wife is running around the world seeking a safe haven with your money. Pirapaharan built couple of luxurious bunkers with all the modern facility with your money. It is therefore still not too late to stop financing the dying LTTE; stop organizing protest marches, demos and rallies as the Sri Lankan government is not going to stop now until LTTE who also brought misery to the Tamils is completely defeated.

"Tamil Hitler - Made in India" Prabhakaran, who killed Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, is now seeking help from India.

Indian intervention in Sri Lankan affairs

  • They may be strong in armed forces but still they can't find a proper solution to Kashmir Problem (neither military nor political).
  • No matter how strong they are they still have terrorism problems like Chain Bombardments in their capital city, New Delhi, and attacks even inside their Parliament.
  • With all the technology to win space and with all the high tech gadgets in nuclear weaponry, they took more than 30 years to capture a single jungle thief Veerappan.
  • As a nation, collectively they are unable to derive a proper political solution to have a good relationship with neighbouring Pakistan for more than 6 decades.
  • Their politicians are still unable to convince Indian Muslims and Hindus to live in peace and harmony.
  • India had to draw back their RAW (Research and Analysis Wing - Indian intelligence) wing due to their unsuccessful interference in Sri Lanka that resulted in sacrificing their prime minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. So, they have been unsuccessful in this matter once. So, their predictions are not always correct.
  • India is one of the major parties who aggravated this problem. They trained LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists initially in south India including Prabakaran, Pottu Amman and Karuna Amman. They air supplied food stuff in the past to LTTE when were terribly in need. South India continuously smuggle combat stuff to LTTE.
  • As a nation no matter how hard they try to display a big image of their selves they have critical issues in their own country. They have racial issues, religious issues, economical issues, social issues and political issues. It is not the country we see in Bollywood films. Besides it is highly unethical to interfere the matters of another independent nation because we don't ask them what to do next. India simply don't have rights to do that.
  • South Indian politicians can come to Sri Lanka and travel through out the country to see where ethnic cleansing is. All the southern cities and all the offices there have Tamils living and working in harmony. But any of the northern cities don't have a single Sinhalese.  So, where is ethnic cleansing? So better not use unknown matters for their personal cheap short or long-term political gains.
  • We Sri Lankans don't have any other country to live in other than Sri Lanka. So, if anybody wants to give Tamils a separate country, please separate south India (Tamil Nadu) from what we currently call India, just like Pakistan and Bangladesh, and create a separate state for Tamils in the world. Tamil Nadu has all the necessities for them.

I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983

I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983 when LTTE killed 13 soldiers in Jaffna and provoked the Sinhalese in the South to retaliate. We were living with Sinhalese, Muslims, Burghers, Malays like brothers and sisters and that harmony was shattered. We all were one family of one mother Lanka. But unfortunately, LTTE brought us down to ghettos and taught us to hate Sinhalese people. What have we achieved over the last three decades? We have lost our cream of Tamil political leadership sparing only a few like Ananda Sangaree. LTTE killed our educated Tamil politicians; LTTE killed our intellectuals like Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam, Kethiswera Loganathan, Sam Thambimittu and many others including many Tamil politicians at parliamentary level to village council level. The many youth both men and women sacrificed their lives in this unwanted terrorist war launched by LTTE and ably supported by TD creating a big vacuum in the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. The Tamil minority, once the next biggest ethnic group to Sinhalese has dropped down to third place by Muslims overtaking in terms population. Who is responsible for this catastrophe? We the Tamil Diaspora and LTTE should bear the full responsibility.

Tamil Tiger Terror Machine Forcibly Holding Civilians in the Vanni as a Human Shield

LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists are using 'civilians as shields', despite constant urges made by the Sri Lanka Government for the release of thousands stranded in its clutches".

Those who are expressing concern about the security of civilians in the Wanni have stopped short of calling for action against the LTTE, which is using people as a "Human Shield" in Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu. The Sri Lankan government has made arrangements to accommodate civilians to be evicted from the theatre of war, as it successfully did in the Eastern Province. If the LTTE lets go of civilians, the question of their security won’t arise. Therefore, it may be argued that anyone who laments about the plight of civilians without faulting the LTTE or pressuring it to release people in its clutches is, either wittingly or unwittingly, helping further the LTTE’s cause.

These two officers were keen and had helped the people of KKS whose livelihood depended on the cement industry. These two officers were Sinhala (Island 26, August 2008).

Between February 2002 and August 2005, 2,069 complaints were registered against the LTTE. Of these, 1,693 have been ruled as CFA violations. The SLMM had ruled that the total number of CFA violations committed by the LTTE, involving all categories, is 3,113. Of the 141 cases ruled as CFA violations by the Sri Lankan armed forces, there are no complaints of child recruitment. Pointing out that upto the end of August, the UNICEF had recorded 1,277 outstanding cases of child recruitment, the Coalition emphasised that "the recruitment of any child under the age of 18 for military purposes ? whether forced or voluntary ? is contrary to international human rights norms." The Chinese in Malaysia is not entitled to a second homeland in Malaysia where a large Chinese community lives. Its real homeland or native is China . Malaysia is the homeland of the Malays where they are the bhoomiputras. So why should Tamils be entitled to a second homeland in Sri Lanka when next door to this island is their real homeland having a history of many thousands of years of Tamil civilization? Any foreigner has only to visit Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu see the difference between the two countries and find out what the true Tamil homeland or native land is.
Homeland .......We should note the difference between a person's land of birth and his/her motherland (or fatherland as the Germans would say). The latter is the land of our ancestors who built a civilization culture and language for over two centuries. Accordingly Sri Lanka is the motherland of the Sinhalas. They have no other home land or mother land in any other part of the world, unlike the Tamils whose homeland is Tamil Nadu established on January 14, 1969. Ninety percent of the world's Tamil population lives in India and 75 percent of them in Tamil Nadu which is twice the size of Sri Lanka .

APRC Proposals ....... The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has already warned the government that it would face dire consequences, at the forthcoming budget, if it backs the APRC proposals for a Federal State. JHU and MEP representatives of the APRC have publicly denounced the Chairman for his efforts to undermine the mandate received at the last presidential election for a unitary state. The persistent attempt by the Chairman of the APRC to sell a set of proposals based on the very same report of the expert panel, rejected by the main political parties (SLFP.JVP, JHU, MEP etc) who were instrumental when bringing the present regime into power, could drag the ruling circles into a difficult situation unless remedial action is taken in time.

But for practical purposes the Judge said he was imposing the sentence only on the first ten counts making a total of 200 years in jail.

Description
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is a Sri Lankan-based organization which advocates the creation of an independent homeland in the north and northeastern part of Sri Lanka which it has called "Tamil Eelam". Its war against the government of Sri Lanka has been fought on three fronts: a political campaign, guerrilla warfare, and a terrorist campaign. The LTTE is committed to using a variety of terror tactics in order to achieve its objectives, including attacking political, economic, religious and cultural targets, as well as targeting civilians. The LTTE's campaign has included plans to create Tamil-only northern and eastern provinces, and to this end it has aggressively expelled non-Tamils from these regions. The LTTE also endeavours to eliminate moderate Tamils and other Tamil militant groups that compete with it for influence and power within the Sri Lankan Tamil community.

Humanitarian operations continue to free Tamil civilians from the "Human Shield of Prabhakaran"

President Mahinda Rajapaksa appeals Tamil civilians of the "Human Shield of Prabhakaran"....

"I am aware of the tremendous difficulties faced by the civilians who are unfortunately still being held hostage by the LTTE in the 'no-fire zone'. "Your suffering is prolonged by this action of the LTTE who are holding you as a human shield for their own safety and security. "I appeal to every one of you to come over to the cleared areas. My government will continue to give utmost priority to ensure the safety and welfare of each and every one of you."

Now it is the time to offer U$ 1 or 2 Million cash prize for the "head of LTTE Leader Prabhakaran".

A public announcement that so much of millions of rupees will be offered for the head of Prabhakaran will bring emotional pressure to Prabhakaran and he will suspect every one around him. Under pressure, he may even bite the cyanide capsule (read more)

Sri Lanka troops take rebels' defense bund
2009-05-03 21:28:11

COLOMBO, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's government troops on the forward march in the northeastern battle zone have captured another rebels' earth bunds, a military officer said on Sunday.
"The 53rd division has been able to capture the bund north of the Nanthikandal lagoon, south of the A35 road", Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, the military spokesman, said.
The 500 meter long and 10 feet wide bund was captured Sunday morning. The Tamil Tigers had suffered extensive damage in the fighting.
Nanayakara said the troops are continuing operations in order to free Tamil civilians from Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) clutches.
The Army's 53rd, 55th, 58th divisions and Task Force 8 have positioned in the no fire zone where the rebels are mingling with civilians and attacking troops.
Meanwhile the Police Special Task Force said that search operations for LTTE members in the eastern province's Kanjilkudujiaru jungles were continuing after they gunned down four senior rebels on Saturday.

Colombo says shelling images 'fake'

The images purportedly showed the aftermath of a deadly army attack on a hospital in the war zone

Sri Lanka's military has accused the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam of fabricating images that purported to show the aftermath of a deadly army attack on a hospital in the conflict zone.
The photographs, first published on a website, depicted what Tamil separatist sources said was an artillery hit on a makeshift hospital in Mullivaikal on Saturday.
The pro-LTTE website alleged that government sources had killed 81 people after two consecutive days of shelling.
But Al Jazeera's David Chater, reporting from Colombo on Sunday, said Sri Lankan military experts "have analysed the pictures and claim they were deliberately posed for propaganda purposes".

No chance of Prabhakaran fleeing by sea
Rafik Jalaldeen in Mullaitivu

Inching a step forward to escape by sea is a fading dream for LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and his associates. The Navy’s highly fortified four defence lines are under operation without timeout.
A journey to the sea is a new experience for a journalist like me. What I witnessed was how hard these Naval troops are striving to protect the Motherland from terrorists amid unbearable heat, LTTE attacks and infiltrations. The sailors deployed in the seas off Mullaituvu to detect LTTE movements have not seen the shore for days. The sailors are silent fighters in the deep sea.
The LTTE cadres were militarily defeated from ground and sea. Their capabilities were weakened by the Security Forces. Hence, the exodus to the cleared areas.
The Northern coastal line extending from Kankasanthurai to Chundikulam and the Eastern coastal line from Point-Pedro to Kalmunai were cleared from LTTE movements. The Navy has established highly fortified defence lines with high-tech leaving no room for the LTTE to escape.
To monitor the LTTE movements, the coastal line is fixed with radar facilities in Pulmodai, Kallarawa, Chenmalai, Chilawatte, Chalai and Chundikulam.

"Commitment to free my people remain" – President to Akashi
Reliefweb, 3 May.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa told the visiting Special Envoy from Japan, Yasushi Akashi, that he was firm in his own commitment and that of his government to free the Sri Lankan Tamil citizens who remained being held as hostages by the LTTE. At a breakfast meeting at Janadhipathi Mandiraya today (May 02), there was a wide ranging discussion of the humanitarian situation in the North, especially regarding the continuing presence of Tamil civilians held as hostages by the LTTE in the No Fire Zone, and the many thousands of civilians who had escaped from the LTTE to the cleared areas the government.
The President also stressed the need to defeat the LTTE and its leader Prabhakaran and bring terrorism to an end in the country.

LTTE restricted to 4.5 sq km area; 21 rebels killed in clashes
Colombo (PTI)

With the beleaguered LTTE confined to a small area of 4.5 sq kms, Sri Lankan army chief Sarath Fonseka has said the troops are consolidating their positions despite heavy attacks from remnant rebel cadres in the north, where at least 21 guerrillas were killed in intense clashes.
The security forces are marching forward despite heavy attacks by the LTTE, Fonseka said, adding the Tiger rebels can do nothing as the troops are consolidating their positions in the remaining area.
The troops have also undertaken a block-up built by the LTTE rebels, he said on Saturday at a function held at the Singha Regiment Headquarters in Abeypussa, over 50 km. east of Colombo.
He said the two brigades of the army are now jointly launching the operations against the Tamil Tigers, who are now restricted to an area of 4.5 sq km.

Maximise the use of artillery, air assets to finish off Tigers – UNP MP
 by Shamindra Ferdinando

Amidst mounting international pressure to suspend the war against the LTTE, the UNP yesterday urged the government to maximize the use of all armaments at its disposal to finish off what is left of the group’s conventional military power.
UNP MP Palitha Ranga Bandara told The Island that there shouldn’t be any restrictions on the use of artillery, mortars, air and naval assets against the LTTE now trapped on the Mullaitivu coast. Responding to our queries, Bandara emphasized that deployment of armour and artillery should be the prerogative of ground commanders leading the offensive. Had they been denied the required gunfire support, the infantry would face unnecessary losses, he said.
The Puttalam District MP said that he fully backed an all out ground assault against LTTE cadres without further delay. He said that as government forcers spearheaded by the army had confined the LTTE fighting formations to a mere 7 sq. km area there was absolutely no point in holding back the army.

MILIBAND AND KOUCHNER WENT SPEECHLESS WEHN ASKED ABOUT THEIR DUPLICITY TREATING SRILANKA TERRORISM” - AL JAZEERA

(By Walter Jayawardhana)
David Miliband and Bernanrd Kouchner , Foreign Ministers of United Kingdom and France refused to answer questions by Al Jazeera correspondent , David Charter about the duplicity of their governments in treating terrorism in Sri Lanka in contrast to that of Iraq and Afghanistan, the news channel said.
In a broadcast which was also put up in their web Al Jazeera correspondent David Charter said, “I did indeed pose the question of perceived duplicity as reported by the local media when Al Jazeera accompanied Miliband and Bernard Kouchner, the French foreign minister, to a camp in Vavuniya housing Tamil civilians who had escaped from the combat zone. Both men refused to answer the question. Their silence, however, has not staved off the criticism.”
To highlight their point Al Jazeera quoted the Australia based Sri Lankan writer H.L.D. Mahindapala who said, “"What is unacceptable is the obscenity of their morality which serves neither human rights nor peace. Each time they take the moral high-ground to dictate terms to small nations they find themselves exposed without even a fig leaf to cover their nakedness."
Al Jazeera said, Mahindapala's words resonate with many in Colombo who have grown weary of the war and its ongoing threat.
The following is the full item Al Jazeera broadcast: “A rash of new posters has recently appeared around Colombo , Sri Lanka 's capital, criticising Western diplomats.

Sri Lanka slams western powers, praises India for its support

T V Sriram Colombo, May 3 (PTI) Sri Lanka today criticised certain western countries for raising "ridiculous demands" including a ceasefire and amnesty for LTTE leaders in the island's northern warzone as it praised India and a host of other nations for their support in eradicating terrorism.
In an article posted on the Defence Ministry website, it said "some countries that portray themselves as the global guardians of human rights, had made several shameless attempts to recommend punitive action against this poor third world country, struggling to rid itself of terrorism." Meanwhile, the Tamil Tigers appealed to Britain and France to continue with their initiatives for a ceasefire, which the Government dismissed as an "eyewash".
"We are ready to engage in the process to bring about a ceasefire and enter into negotiations for an enduring resolution to the conflict," LTTE political head B Nadesan said in a letter to Britain Foreign Secretary David Miliband and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

Colombo offers amnesty to LTTE cadres
B. Muralidhar Reddy

They should give up arms and surrender to the military
COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka government is ready to give conditional amnesty to the lower rungs of the LTTE holed up in the remaining area of the no fire zone (NFZ) if they give up arms and surrender to the military.
This was stated by Sri Lanka Minister for Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinghe on Sunday.
Three days ago, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said at a public function here that even now it was not late for the LTTE cadres, against whom no cases were pending, to throw up arms and surrender to the military.
Not for LTTE top rung
The offer is not applicable to the top rung of the LTTE, including its chief Velupillai Prabakaran and all others against whom criminal cases are pending.
The military believes that an estimated 300 to 400 LTTE leaders and cadres had taken shelter in the remaining part of the NFZ and they are holding a large number of civilians as human shield.

UN accused of spying on Sri Lanka

Miliband, Kouchner and Hillary Clinton - Fishing in troubled waters
Dr. P.A. Samaraweera

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and France’s Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner having failed to persuade Sri Lanka for a ceasefire had written an article to The Times of London on April 30 calling Sri Lanka’s role as, ‘Victory without humanity can be no triumph’.
Sri Lanka having endured the bitter consequences of fighting for nearly a quarter of a century with the world’s most lethal terrorists and when the Army is hoping to finish off, a European delegation consisting of Miliband and Kouchner arrived calling for a ceasefire. They said they were backed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well. Last week there was an outcry against her for her controversial statement that, ‘the failure to protect civilians in Sri Lanka is truly shocking’.
They pressured the Government to end the offensive against the terrorists. The irony is that when the war is nearly ending and the tigers are on the run and besieged Miliband says, “... Now is the time to end the fighting...” Obviously, the trio had thought that Sri Lanka was under their thumbs and they little realized that on the Government side there were men of ‘steel’ (The Defence Secretary and the Army Commander) who had survived suicide bomb attacks.

Defeating LTTE propaganda, need of the hour
 Uditha Kumarasinghe

Coordinator of the World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka (WAPS) Jivinda de Silva says the WAPS is playing a leading role to counter false propaganda launched by the pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora throughout the world on Sri Lanka.
APS Coordinator in an interview with the Daily News expressed his views on the moves taken by the WAPS in collaboration with various organizations formed by the patriotic Sinhala Diaspora to defeat the LTTE’s false propaganda campaign by educating the international community on the true nature of the LTTE terrorists.
Q: Can you elaborate on the moves taken by the WAPS to counter the LTTE’s false propaganda campaign?
A: At present, the WAPS in association with several organizations formed by the Sinhala Diaspora in countries such as UK, US, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, New Zealand and Japan, have bravely rallied round to counter these false propaganda campaigns launched by pro-LTTE elements.
A large number of patriotic Sinhala Diaspora in New York and other cities have extended their support to the WAPS to defeat this ideology spread throughout the world by pro-LTTE elements.
WAPS has also conducted seminars in several countries to educate both citizens and the Sri Lankan Diaspora in those countries. In addition, we have regular meetings with Congressmen and Senators of the US regarding the ongoing situation in Sri Lanka. Our struggle is a continuous process to defeat LTTE terrorism.

Let us salute the great nations that genuinely helped us fight terrorism

Sri Lanka is about to conclude her war against terror. The ordeal that about 19 million people have been living with for more than quarter of a century is about to be over. It would never be too early to express our gratitude to all the great nations who genuinely helped us to come this far in this historic battle. Because, the value of a sincere friend would never be so felt, as when one is beset by a group of hypocrites.
On April 30 it was reported that the UN Security Council has no interest in punishing Sri Lanka, by withholding funds that she needs at this moment. Before that decision was taken, some countries that portray themselves as the global guardians of human rights, had made several shameless attempts to recommend punitive action against this poor third world country, struggling to rid itself of terrorism.
Ironically, these so-called human rights champs tried to justify their claims saying that they were doing it for the safety of civilians, held at hostage by terrorists in island's North. Moreover, they put a number of ridiculous demands on the Sri Lanka government, such as offering amnesty to the terrorists, allowing a third party to rescue the terrorist leaders, go for a ceasefire, etc. Never did history unmask the hypocrisy and the sanctimony of the Western Powers than their behaviour towards Sri Lanka during recent times.

Time to Put a Price Tag on Prabhakaran's Head - By Malin Abeyatunga, Melbourne, Australia - Prabhakaran is a wanted criminal by Interpol. Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman are wanted by India for the assassination of their son of soil Rajiv Gandhi. Prabhakran has been sentenced to 200 years for his involvement in Central Bank bombing. In addition to the above, Prabhakran is accountable for the deaths of President Premadasa, Ministers Lakshman Kadirgamar, Fernadopulle, Dassanayake, Gamini Dissanayake, HV Gunaratna, Lalith Athulathmudali, Ranjan Wijeratna to name a few. Prabhakaran is behind the killing of Alfred Duraiappah, Rajini Thiranagama, Jaffna Mayor, Sam Thambimuttu, Amirthalingam,Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam, Kethisweran Loganathan. Prabhakaran is responsible for exterminating all opposing Tamil politicians. Prabhakaran is accountable for all ethnic cleansing of Sinhalese and Muslims from their villages. Prabhakaran is accountable for the bombing of Buddhist most sacred place Dalada Maligawa, killing hundred of Buddhist devotees at Sri Maha Boodhiya., killing over hundred Muslim prayers in a mosque in Kattankuddy. He is responsible of the massacre of 39 Buddhist monks in Aranthalawe. Prabhakaran has blood in his hands of ordering the killing of 649 policemen who surrendered to LTTE at the request of then President Premadasa. Prabhakaran is accountable for numerous bombs and suicide attacks on public places like  Katunayake air port, public trains, buses, shopping malls killing hundreds of civilians. The killing list of Prabhakaran is exhaustive and this is just a few of his killings off the war zone. He is not an ordinary killer but a sadistic killer. Now this maniac killer is hiding behind the innocent Tamil civilians to save his life. He should be captured dead or alive before he makes his last bid to escape. USA offered a couple of million dollars for the head of Sadam Hussein and succeeded and most probably a  tip of his hide out would have come from inside for the allied forces to capture him alive (read full letter in SPUR).

An open letter to Secretary Hillary Clinton - To: The Secretary of State, Hon. Hillary Clinton Re: The End of the War in Sri Lanka From: Concerned Voting Citizens of the USA and the Free World. (May 03, Washington, Sri Lanka Guardian) Madam Secretary, we address this response to you as registered Democratic Citizen voters of the United States and the Free World of Sri Lankan Origin. We value democracy and freedom for all people in Sri Lanka. Your comment concerning the end of the war in Sri Lanka to quote your words, "I think that the Sri Lankan government knows that the entire world is very disappointed that in its efforts to end what it sees as 25 years of conflict, it is causing such untold suffering" is the most undemocratic statement we have ever heard from you having followed your political career with admiration. The entire nation of Sri Lanka's peace loving democratic voters of all ethnicities has suffered through that long 25 year period. We have all lost relatives and friends and fellow citizens over 25 years. The International community didn't come to help us and voice disappointment in the path taken by the LTTE when suicide bombers ran amok in the country and ethnically cleansed parts of it committing Genocide against Sinhalese and Muslims (Full report in Lanka Guardian).

An Eye Opener for the British Government - By Venerable Walpola Piyananda, Chief Sangha Nakaye of America - I wish to refresh the memory of the British. Since we got our independence in 1948, Sri Lanka has maintained a cordial relationship with them and we still work together, as a part of the commonwealth. When the former Prime Minister Mrs. Margaret Thatcher sent the military to reclaim the Falkland Islands off the coast of Argentina, the U.N. condemned the British, but Sri Lanka stood steadfastly with the U. K. The Sri Lankan government did not criticize the British government’s involvement in the Iraqi war even though they believed it was wrong. These past few years, unfortunately, I find that the British authorities seem to have forgotten the past and lack loyalty. It is an undisputed fact that the British government has swallowed the propaganda pills of the LTTE diaspora. It is shameful that some of the members of Parliament accept their blood money, speaking on behalf of this terrorist group. Is the government turning a blind eye to the individuals who support and help hide the terrorists and their activities; i.e. the procurement of arms; drug smuggling; destroying public property – e.g. Jawahalal Nehru’s statue; attacks on the embassies of Sri Lanka and India in the U.K.; cloning and counterfeiting credit cards at gas stations; extorting money from fellow Tamils with threats of death? (full report in Asian Tribune).

Army commander says the LTTE carders are now restricted to an area of 4.5 square kilometres - Army commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka says the LTTE carders are now restricted to an area of 4.5 square kilometres. The security forces are marching forward despite the heavy attacks by the LTTE. The army commander further said the LTTE has nothing to do when the troops are consolidating remaining area. At a function held at the Singha Regiment Headquarters in Abeypussa also said the security forces had under taken a block up built by the LTTE terrorists. The 53rd and 58th brigades are now jointly launching the operations (Full report in SLBC).

Sri Lankan army rules out presence of LTTE jet in no-fire zone - Closing in on the cornered Tamil Tigers in their ever-shrinking territory in the northern part of island, Sri Lankan forces on Sunday ruled out presence of any LTTE aircraft in the area. The suspicion of presence of LTTE aircraft in the five sq km no-fire zone arose after troops recovered a bomb used by rebels' aircraft from Kokkavil area in Mullaittivu on Saturday. "We have found an LTTE light aircraft bomb in Kokkavil area which has already been liberated and the question of the Tiger rebels having any plane in the no-fire-zone does not arise," a senior military official said. Sri Lankan troops recovered eight light aircraft bombs during search operation in the Mudaliyarkulam area in Mullaittivu on April 18. The official said the troops came across these bombs after the army liberated the region from Tigers. A media report last month had suggested that the LTTE may still have one light aircraft left in its arsenal. The report had said a Czech made Zlin Z 143 light aircraft may still be left with the LTTE contrary to the reports that it had no more aircraft after losing two of them during the February 19 air attack on Colombo. "LTTE activists have been experimenting clandestinely," the defence ministry said (full report in Hindu).

British Foreign Secretary says his government is ready to work with Sri Lankan Government to achieve - British Foreign Secretary David Miliband says that the LTTE is preventing civilians from leaving the combat zone. He also says that it is vital for the Government of Sri Lanka rise above that—they need to find a way that builds a peace as well as wins the war. He also assures that his government is trying to work with them to achieve the goal. He had made this statement in the British House of Commons recently with reference to the previous day debate on Sri Lanka tabled by Liberal Democratic Mps and the All Party Parliamentry Group For Tamil. Mr Miliband returned to UK from Sri Lanka few hours before making his statement. British Foreign Secretary further said that he had spoken to people in the internally displaced person camps who recounted how the LTTE had forced them to stay in the no-fire zone against their will and had shot at them when they tried to flee (Full report in SLBC).

Japan special envoy hopes that LTTE will change their minds and allow the people in the no fire zone - Japan’s special envoy Yashushi Akashi says this time he is to leave Sri Lanka with a good feeling and positive hopes. At a media briefing held in Colombolast evening, he said the government of Sri Lanka had done a tremendous task for the welfare of the displaced people residing in the welfare camps. He said that it is remarkable that the government is serving the benefit of the displaced people with its limited resources. Mr. Yashu Akashi expressed hope that the LTTE will change their mind at the earliest time and allow free movement for the people trapped in the no fire zone (SLBC).

Tokyo backs Sri Lanka - Express News ServiceFirst Published : 03 May 2009 02:29:00 AM ISTLast Updated : COLOMBO: Japan, which is the top most aid giver to Sri Lanka, said it completely backed the Mahinda Rajapaksa government’s war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), its plans for the resettlement of the Tamil war refugees, and also its efforts to find a political solution which would lead to lasting peace, stability and ethnic harmony. The visiting Japanese Special Envoy Yasushi Akashi, said this after meeting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other leaders here on Saturday. Akashi said that Japan viewed the Sri Lankan military action and the problem of refugees differently from the way the Western countries such as the US and UK did. All he expected was that the Sri Lankan government would keep to its commitment of April 27 of not using heavy weapons or aircraft in its attacks on the so-called No Fire Zone, as Japan shared everybody’s concern that civilian casualties should be minimised. “We believe that the common people should not be punished for the wrong decisions of their leaders,” he said. Akashi announced that Japan had allocated US $ 4 million as emergency assistance for the Tamil refugees in the camps (Full report in Express Buzz).

Is the Tamil Diaspora really concerned about Tamils in Sri Lanka? - By Malinda Seneviratne - (May 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) David Miliband and Bernard Kouchner, the foreign minister of Britain and France, respectively, may be rather ignorant. Their bullishness can perhaps be attributed to this; they are out of tune with global realities and probably still believe they are living in the 18th century. They came. Sorry, they strutted in. They saw. They heard. And they left with their tails tucked under their legs. Had they heard what the LTTE’s chief translator, ‘George Master’ had to say, they might have learnt that they are way off the mark regarding the situation in the No Fire Zone (NFZ). If they have the guts they would educate the Tamil Diaspora agitating like there’s no tomorrow in London, Paris and elsewhere, but I doubt they will. Still, there is something redeeming about these gentlemen. Their concern, they say, is ‘civilians’. They are terribly worried about the civilians held hostage by Prabhakaran and they seem incapable of stomaching the fact that it was not diplomacy and not ‘humanitarian pause’ that helped free over 115,000 civilians, but well planned and admirably executed military strategy. And yet, it is also true that Britain and France have both pledged concrete support for civilians who have succeeded in reaching Government-controlled areas. In other words they’ve earned the right to express concern about those who are still in the LTTE’s clutches (Full report in Sri Lanka Guardian).

A thanks giving for the international community (By: Gomin Dayasri) Gratitude is a national characteristic from time immemorial. We have faced the full blast of sniper fire and multi barrel attacks in the name of fake diplomacy and dubious humanitarian exercises and still emerged triumphantly to defeat terrorism. Equally difficult has been to overcome the onslaught from western sources appearing in pseudo humanitarian garb to preach sermons which they fail to practice. Name it -we have had it- Negotiations, Monitoring, Ceasefires, Failed State, R2P, Human Indexes, Economic Indicators, Travel Restrictions, Humanitarian Interventions, Amnesty, Searches for Strictures and Sanctions, Peace Missionaries, NGO Onslaughts, Human Rights Commissions with Foreign Observers. Yet we have surmounted these obstacles-survived and succeeded. We could never have overcome these poison darts if not for the support of the international community. It is the numerically majority club (unlike the handful who pretend to represent the International Community) which stood firmly beside us at times of crisis. They never flinched or flickered for a moment in their support of our just cause to wipe out terrorism unlike those human rights angels who have agendas which are in conflict with their outward appearances and utterances. The fake international community is vocal because of their links to the giant media mafia. It is through media manipulation the opinion of a powerful but numerically few are blown out of proportion to reflect as the custodian voice of the international community (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

The Facts about Genocide in Sri Lanka - It has never happened... By and large Sri Lankans are peaceful people. Even after the tens of thousands killed in terrorist attacks, except for the Black July riots of 1983, they have never once retaliated. Sri Lanka is not some Rwanda with a 40 percent literacy rate; She boasts an intelligent and educated population with a staggeringly high 92 percent literacy rate. An ancient people, steeped in Buddhist culture that shoo the mosquitoes away, like in Thailand, rather than enduring the loathing that comes with killing, according to Buddhist beliefs. If the deaths of 80,000 people killed in total over 25 years of civil war in a country of 17 million constitutes genocide, the horrendous terrorist attacks on civilian soft targets committed by the LTTE and its leader Velupillai Prabhakaren, should see him charged at The Hague The facts point to the LTTE Tamil Tigers having ethnically cleansed entire Sinhalese and Muslim villages in the north and east of Sri Lanka. The Tamil Tigers taught me to be a suicide bomber. Then I got my O-levels and decided I didn't want to die

Another chance: Journalist Edna Fernandes with three former child soldiers at a Sri Lankan Government rehabilitation camp

A former Tamil Tiger child soldier has given a shocking insight into the abuses perpetrated by separatist rebels, revealing how he was taken by Tamil fighters to a terror training camp at the age of 12, forced to undergo a gruelling daily 17-hour training regime and brainwashed into becoming a suicide bomber. In an extraordinary and unprecedented interview with Mail on Sunday special correspondent Edna Fernandes, Thayalan, now 17, admitted: ‘I was ready to kill by the time training was finished.’ And it was only when he got his O-level results – including six As and two Bs – that he decided to do something positive with his life and defected from the suicide squad. Thayalan’s revelations shed light on the tactics of the rebel group that pioneered the use of the suicide bomb, a technique copied by Islamic terrorists. When his parents were killed in an army bombing raid, Thayalan was taken into a Tamil Tiger orphanage. ‘We lived with the cause from the beginning,’ he said. ‘I learned about the struggle for a Tamil homeland. They told us that armed struggle was the way to achieve liberation.’ At 12 he was sent to a military training camp in the jungle, where 120 children spent their school holidays undergoing weapons training from 4am to 9pm each day. At 16, he chose to become a suicide bomber and was trained by the Black Tiger suicide squad. But as he waited for his mission, he got his O-level results. ‘I couldn’t believe my grades – six As, two Bs, two Cs,’ he said. ‘I realised I could do something with my life. I decided I didn’t want to die.’ Eventually, he was apprehended by the Sri Lankan intelligence authorities and taken to an austere rehabilitation camp, where he renounced his allegiance to the Tigers and is now studying for his A-levels. He hopes to go on to do an engineering degree. Edna Fernandes was the only journalist granted access to the terrorist rehabilitation camps set up by the Sri Lankan government. She also visited one of the Tamil civilian refugee centres the Sri Lankan authorities call ‘welfare villages’ but which some critics label ‘concentration camps’. She was the first – and possibly last – reporter to do so after the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry announced on Friday that it would no longer allow journalists into the camps. Her exclusive dispatch from the Sri Lankan capital Colombo reveals some of the harrowing personal stories behind the 25-year civil war. The Sri Lankan army believes it is on the brink of defeating the rebels. It has refused a ceasefire and is confident of defeating the fighters it views as terrorists, although both sides have been accused of atrocities by observers (Full report in Mail-Online).

Western Arms Manufacturers needs battlefields to sell their Arms...... The secret behind the ‘grave concerns of human lives’ of these superpowers are very clear. World politics and arms trade are closely linked. Arms manufacture and dealing is a highly profitable global business. It is estimated that yearly, over 1 trillion dollars are spent on military expenditures worldwide. The United States is the top supplier of weapons to the developing world, accounting for around 36% of worldwide weapons sales, followed by Britain and Germany. Western Arms Manufacturers needs battlefields to sell their Arms. An estimated 500,000 individuals die in small arms-conflicts every year, approximately one death per minute. Are these people concerned for the loss of innocent lives or their loss of business? (Read full article in SPUR).

No third party mediation - Defence Secretary - "What matters most is what the average citizen of this country wants and hopes for," Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said during an interview with the Sunday Observer. Following are the excerpts: Q: At this juncture, when the Security Forces are on the verge of victory in their war against terrorism we see the Government is under pressure over many issues especially from the international community. How would you explain this situation? A: Considering the developments took place during the last few weeks we see that the international concerns on the present situation are much more serious than before; especially from the Western countries. There are varieties of concerns from these parties. The Government is pressured, especially from certain Western countries, to go for a ceasefire and provide access for a third party to the `No Fire Zone' to negotiate with the LTTE for a settlement. Still, the Government's main concern is the betterment of its citizens. If any of the suggestions can bring benefit to the people, it will be welcome. The Government, which is elected by the people themselves, is bound to look after their interests. During the 30 year old battle against terrorism it is the Sri Lankans alone who suffered most and no one else! People want to see an end to the terrorist menace. This they have reiterate repeatedly by voting the ruling party to power during elections (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Time to Put a Price Tag on Prabhakaran's Head

He is not an ordinary killer but a sadistic killer. Now this maniac killer is hiding behind the innocent Tamil civilians to save his life. He should be captured dead or alive before he makes his last bid to escape.

USA offered a couple of million dollars for the head of Sadam Hussein and succeeded and most probably a tip of his hide out would have come from inside for the allied forces to capture him alive.

It is our turn now and the western world cannot morally be critical about it. The Sri Lankan Government should offer a couple of million rupees for the head of Prabhakaran. Who knows that a tip will come from their own cadre (Daya and George masters spilling some beans now) or even from a civilian. A public announcement that so much of millions of rupees will be offered for the head of Prabhakaran will bring emotional pressure to Prabhakaran and he will suspect every one around him. Under pressure, he may even bite the cyanide capsule. We should get him before he makes an attempt to escape and such a cash offer might help armed forces its job much easier and quicker. That will also save a few of our experienced commandos precious lives whilst trying to capture him dead or alive and also couple of millions of rupees in the war operation (Read full letter)

Sri Lankan expats content with LTTE washout, others worried - Sri Lankan expatriates in the Kingdom are lauding their military forces and President Mahinda Rajapakse for the fight against the Tamil Tigers (LTTE), while they are also worried about the safety of their families back home and the economic depreciation resulting from the violence in Sri Lanka. Jayantha Kumara, president of Api Sri Lanka Association International, said: “I agree with what the Sri Lankan government is currently doing. It is attempting to eradicate LTTE terrorism from Sri Lankan soil, and I greatly appreciate the Sri Lankan President’s efforts in this process. Also, this is not a war against the Tamil community; it is the biased international media that has projected it as discrimination by the majority Sinhalese community against the Tamils.” He said the international media should visit the country to witness how people of the three nationalities, i.e., Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese are ‘living in harmony’. “In fact,” Kumara adds, “the Tamil and the Muslim community are the privileged classes, while the Sinhalese, being a majority, is the deprived class.” Niron Dissanayaka, president of the Sri Lankan Expatriate Society, described the Lankan government’s fight as a ‘good move’. “We should congratulate the forces and President Rajapakse for this victory over LTTE. Our government is spending a lot of money to eradicate this terrorist group that has international links, and we hope that this is an end to our problems and that the country is moving in the right direction,” said Dissanayaka. Another Sri Lankan expat, employed in a petrochemical organization in Jubail, expressed his concern. “I appreciate the government’s bold decision. However, it’s natural for us to worry as our families live in Colombo and no one knows what will happen next,” he said (Full report in Saudi Gazette).

Back to Square One, Sir? - By Bandula Kothalawala London N7 - After making a few puerile utterances and awkward gesticulations, the Foreign Secretary has returned home, bitter, dejected and empty-handed, except for a few thousand air miles. Mr Miliband (Some cynics in Colombo call him the LTTE Miniband!) strenuously denies that his motives were electoral. One could have given him the benefit of doubt had it not been for a few oddities. Mr Miliband waxes lyrical about the safety and welfare of civilians in the No-Fire Zone. I have scanned in vain Mr Miliband's speeches on his website and elsewhere to find any antecedent of his now well-publicised concern, consideration and compassion for civilians in conflict. As far as I can recall, Mr Miliband did not oppose the illegal war in Iraq which has caused over half-a-million civilian casualties, according to a serious study published in 2006 in the Lancet. In fact, the British Government disdainfully rejected the figures and said that it did not keep records of civilian casualties, anyway. Mr Miliband is not on record as having uttered a half a syllable when, in 1996, the US Ambassador to the UN, Madeleine Albright, claimed that the half a million Iraqi children said to have died due to sanctions was a price worth paying. Mr Miliband did not deem it necessary to make day-trips to Colombo when LTTE suicide bombers were blowing to pieces hundreds of innocent civilians, some of whom were Tamils. Mr Miliband's Government would simply trot out a few lines, admonishing the Government of Sri Lanka to start negotiations with a terrorist organisation banned in the US, EU, Canada, India and Sri Lanka (Full report in LankaWeb).

Western Governments Involved in Arm-Twisting tactics in Sri Lanka - The time has come to tell the salmon-eating international busybodies to mind their own business On September 11th, 2001 the whole world watched as Americans wept with bleeding hearts for their fellow countrymen lost to a senseless terrorist attack. 2,976 people perished on that day in what the US called the most daring terrorist attack ever. The whole world felt a loss and wept with America. It is sad to think that the US and the world at large required such an attack to wake-up to terrorism, a phenomenon Sri Lanka has been battling for 30 years. But even after that shocking wake-up-call, why are western nations openly supporting the LTTE, who I might add, is a proscribed terrorist organisation in over 30 countries which include the US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Since 25th July 1975, Sri Lanka has suffered 20 times more civilian casualties than the 9/11 attacks at the hands of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), but then Sri Lanka is only a small unimportant third world country. As if life was any less valuable in Sri Lanka, several western nations, the UN and humanitarian organisations operating under the UN auspices, have all been assisting the Tamil Tiger terrorists (LTTE) for their own agendas. A whole new face to how humanitarian operations are conducted these days is emerging from Sri Lanka, and it is not a pretty one. (Full report in Squidoo).

Long haul ahead - Many of us in Sri Lanka, will at this time when a massive military effort is being thrown to subdue the LTTE, now on its last legs after nearly three decades of brutal fighting, think of the famous Roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero’s words inter arma silent leges - ``laws are silent in times of war.’’ The Sri Lanka government assured that no heavy armour or air power will be used in that tiny sliver of land in coastal Mullaitivu the LTTE still controls in the interest of the civilians yet held there by the Tigers as a human shield. Analysts agree that this assurance was in all probability given at the time Tamil Nadu’s octogenarian Chief Minister Muttuvel Karunanidhi had launched his death fast. Given that the Indian elections were ongoing and Tamil Nadu had not voted, it was obvious that New Delhi needed such an assurance to get him off the fast. That succeeded but the world outside our shores is not convinced that the civilians in the LTTE’s clutches are safe; nor, for that matter, are most of us. War is a bloody brutal business and for the protagonists, whoever they are at whatever time of history, the ends justify the means. Hence the flurry of international visits we have seen in the last few days beginning with India’s national security advisor followed by the British and French foreign ministers and Japan’s special peace envoy. Canada’s minister for international cooperation is due today and the Danish human rights minister later this week (Full Editorial in Sunday Island).

Govt. offers amnesty to LTTE - Cadres who lay down arms and surrender will be rehabilitated By Leon Berenger The Government has decided on an amnesty for all LTTE members who lay down their arms and surrender and those currently held in detention without trial, Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told The Sunday Times last night. Minister Mahinda Samarasingh He said the regulations for this purpose were being drafted in consultation with the Attorney General and they would cover anyone in the LTTE who agreed to lay down weapons and surrender to the security forces. "This includes those still holding on to arms in the no-fire zone and continue to engage the security forces in hostile battle. However the amnesty will not be granted to those who have already been charged or convicted in courts. In these cases, the legal process will be applied," the minister said. He said an undisclosed number of LTTE members had come along with the displaced people to the camps in the Wanni. "While some have confessed they are members of the LTTE, others are being investigated for their links with the group,” Mr. Samarasinghe said. He said he was not aware of the exact number of the LTTE cadres among the displaced people, but other officials put the figure at about 3000. Mr. Samarasinghe said the LTTE members would be rehabilitated and later allowed to re-integrate with the others after investigators were convinced that they have shunned separatism (Full report in Sunday Times).

Help bureau set up: Govt reunites IDP families - Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has appointed a special team of senior Government officials to reunite Internally Displaced families, following reports that a large number of them had been separated from their families during their escapade to Vavuniya and are now in a state of psychological trauma, Health Ministry sources told the Sunday Observer. The team is now in Vavuniya collecting details of all families who were separated in an effort to reunite them and this process will be completed soon, the sources said. A ‘family-help bureau’has also been set up to reunite those separated from their families. The Health Ministry has also despatched a team of 207 doctors on internship to hospitals in Mannar, Poovarasankulam, Vavuniya (Teaching Hospital), Padaviya, Medawachchiya, Keppetigollawa, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala where the sick and injured among the IDPs are being treated to meet the shortage of doctors, the sources said adding that this was a sequel to a cabinet paper submitted by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. Over 170,000 civilians fled the Mullaitivu `No Fire Zone” braving LTTE threats and of them about 150,000 are housed in 24 transit centres and four welfare villages in Vavuniya and Chettikulam while the rest are housed in centres in Jaffna and Mannar. The IDPs in Vavuniya are being well looked after, with provision of shelter and other basic facilities. About 200,000 residents of Vavuniya, the business community, religious organisations, sports clubs, NGOs and INGOs have joined hands with the Government in extending relief assistance, including parcels of cooked food and drinking water, Government Secretariat sources said. The field hospital that has been set up by the French Government at Chettikulam in the vicinity of the Welfare villages is equipped with about 50 beds and a team of about 60 medical staff including surgeons, specialists and nurses (Sunday Observer).

A rash of new posters has recently appeared around Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, criticising some of the Western diplomats

The Western envoys had in previous weeks called for a pause in the Sri Lankan government's assault on the Tamil Tigers' last stronghold in the north of the country.

The caption below the photographs of Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, David Miliband, the British foreign secretary and Erik Solheim, the Norwegian minister of international development, says "Wanted for aiding and abetting terrorism".

Is it correct to let our boys die, to satisfy the IC? - by Dr Liyanage London - France and UK were engaged in shuttle diplomacy recently to make a request from Sri Lanka to holt military action. Both FMs were saying that their concern was the civilians held by the LTTE at gunpoint. They denied that they were not in Sri Lanka to try and save LTTE leaders from aniihilation. How true are their claims? We heard that British FM wrote to the tamil hunger striker that he will make strenuous efforts to bring about a ceasefire, and as a result the hunger striker gave up his strike. It is clear that the hunger striker doesn’t represent the civilians. He was in fact sleeping in front of a huge poster of VP, obviously a supporter of LTTE. Lets say that the SL Govt in fact declared a ceasefire, how would that get the civilians out? What methodology was the both FMs advocating to free them? It is clear that if the ceasefire won’t get the civilians out and if both FMS wanted a ceasefire, that can’t be to get the trapped people out. It must be due to some other reason. Your guess is as good as mine here. Is it correct to not to use heavy arms when the LTTE are using them to kill both civilians as well as our army? This action obviously was taken to satisfy the IC who wants to satisfy the diaspora. If our boys are now dying as a result of that, wouldn’t it be sensible to use heavy arms in a restricted manner? We are not asking the Govt to use heavy weapons to cause civilian casualties, all we are saying is that the army should be able to decide when to use them if they have to use them against the terrorists. Would any other country not do that same? Let’s drop this idea of letting our boys die to please the IC. Government has a responsibility to the people of SL to finish this menace with the least amount of casualties (LankaWeb).

Better health services for 180,000 IDPs - Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday highlighted the importance of providing better health services to over 180,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who have crossed over to the cleared areas from the No Fire Zone (NFZ). He said that more mobile healthcare centres will be set up in the Vavuniya and Jaffna districts till hospitals are built. The Minister told the Sunday Observer that all major hospitals close to the areas, where IDPs arrived have adequate doctors, nurses and other medical staff and arrangements have been made to transport patients to hospitals from the welfare camps. “However, we will appoint more doctors and nurses to the Northern hospitals, considering the heavy influx of IDPs expected to arrive within the next few days,” he said. Referring to the 100-bed field hospital which is to be built in Chettikulam with the assistance of the French Government, Minister de Silva said that another field hospital will be set up with the assistance of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) shortly. “The Government’s prime objective is to construct hospitals, especially in the areas where IDPs have been resettled and we are confident that this will be fulfilled shortly,” he said (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Don't Try to Save the LTTE - White House Urged - A group of almost 3700 Sri Lankans living in various parts of the world urged the United States to support the Sri Lankan government's fight against LTTE terrorism. In a petition addressed to the US President Barack Obama and the Secretary of State Mrs Hillary Clinton, the 3700 signatories requested the US administration to: 1. provide unequivocal support to Sri Lankan government to fight the war against LTTE terrorism; 2. appeal to the Tamil Diaspora living in the US to influence LTTE not to prevent safe passage of civilians from the no -fire zone and to convince the LTTE to renounce terrorism; 3. not to negotiate or encourage any attempts to save the LTTE terrorism from extinction, especially not to negotiate escape mechanisms for LTTE leaders, which would result in more deaths and agony for hundreds and thousands of Sri Lankans of both present and future generations. The full text of the petition is given below (Full report in LankaWeb).

Reply to Kumar David Tigers and Hyenas - by Prof. Asoka Amaratunga - When one reads Kumar David’s article titled "US is bypassing India on Lanka issues" (Sunday Island – 26.04.09) one would think he lacks an understanding of regional and global politics. He makes absurd utterances such as "…how clever Colombo could be in taking Prime Minister, Home Minister, Chief Minister, High Commissioner and National Security Adviser all for a right royal ride." Has our government taken these highflying Indians for a ride? Really? Surely KD cannot be so naive. This must be an external manifestation of his internal frustration and disappointment due to the complete defeat of the LTTE and the fact that the division of the country is not possible. He is hoping against hope that some external force would intervene to save Prabhakaran and rekindle the separatist fires. Of course he makes it out that such intervention would be to save the Tamils who have escaped from the LTTE clutches and who are now in danger of being massacred by the government forces. He says hopefully it would happen before the coffins of these Tamils are nailed! What hallucinations could these internal frustrations cause?! (Full report in Sunday Island).

The moral right of Western superpowers that went to war with and bombed entire cities in Afghanistan and Iraq on perceived threats of terrorism, as opposed to the reality of terror that Sri Lanka has grappled with for three decades must be questioned.

Situation in Sri Lanka - Response to Dr Rice Open letter Dr. Susan Rice - by  Ben Silva UK - Dear Dr Rice, Situation in Sri Lanka - Response to Dr Rice - First of all.I wish to thank USA for supporting Sri Lanka at various times. My open letter is not to criticize USA but to indicate pass events and precedents. I agree that human life is very precious and even a single death should be avoided. I do not like to see a single Tamil, who are fellow Sri Lankans and our brethren hurt. Rather sadly still many die in the world due to lack of clean drinking water, lack of food and disease. The countries that can do something are rich countries such as USA. We cannot be indifferent to violence and poverty in the world and I am on your side to halt violence to civilians. However, to understand the situation in Sri Lanka, we need to compare like with like rather than discuss in abstract. When you are dealing with hostile forces, that are not prepared to yield, as was the case with Hitler and the Japanese, then USA had to use nuclear weapons killing over 120,ooo. Even prior to that during the USA civil war over 500000 died. UK forces had to fire bomb Dresden killing over 40000. Sri Lanka is unfortunately dealing with one of the deadliest terror groups in the world that are not prepared t ogive up. As you now, USA had a shady history in Vietnam and the number of civilian deaths is very heavy, in thousands. What USA did in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan , killing civilians is also well known (Full letter in LankaWeb).

UK government tries to work with GOSL to achieve peace as well as win the war, says British Foreign Secretary - with aid must come access - British Foreign Secretary David Miliband - London, 03 May, (Asiantribune.com): British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said "the fact that the LTTE is preventing civilians from leaving the combat zone says everything that we need to know about where its interests lie, but it is vital that the Government of Sri Lanka rise above that—they need to find a way that builds a peace as well as wins the war, and we are trying to work with them to achieve that". He made this statement in the British House of Commons on 30th (Thursday) April 2009 with reference to the previous day debate (29th) on Sri Lanka tabled by Liberal Democratic Mps and the All Party Parliamentry Group For Tamil. Mr Miliband returned to UK from Sri Lanka few hours before making his statement. Mr Miliband further said "It is very important that we recognise that democratic Governments are held to higher standards than terrorist organisations. I made that point in my statement. It recurs in a number of parts of the world where democratic Governments may feel frustration at the limits that are imposed on them in how they conduct their operations, but those limits are imposed for very good reason: if we do not defend the values that we are meant to uphold in the way that we attack terrorism, we fall to standards that we should not even consider". He said that he had spoken to people in the internally displaced person (IDP) camps who recounted how the LTTE had forced them to stay in the so-called no-fire zone against their will and had shot at them when they tried to flee (Full report in Asian Tribune).

The Nationalist Papers - Is the Tamil Diaspora really concerned about Tamils in Sri Lanka?By Malinda SeneviratneDavid Miliband and Bernard Kouchner, the foreign minister of Britain and France, respectively, may be rather ignorant. In other words they’ve earned the right to express concern about those who are still in the LTTE’s clutches (Full report in Sunday Island).

Miliband, Kouchner, and Clinton should offer their services in countries it said needed the most assistance, namely Iraq and Afghanistan, not Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is capable of handling her internal matters.

Humanitarian aspects of IDPs: Tamil political parties to meet President - Representatives of Tamil political parties including certain members from the Tamil National Alliance are due to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the humanitarian aspects of the Internally Displaced Persons at the IDP Centres in Vavuniya, sources said. The meeting is expected to take place on Tuesday and for the first time several Tamil political parties have come together to meet the President to discuss the IDP issue, sources said. The President and officials dealing with the IDPs are likely to brief the Tamil politicians on the measures taken to look into the welfare of the IDPs, the sources said (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Court orders NGAs : Expedite de-mining for early re-settlement - The Supreme Court directed the Non-Governmental Agencies (NGAs) to expedite the de-mining program in the Jaffna High Security Zone (HSZ) jointly with the Sri Lanka Army in order to start resettling the people of the area in their original places. This was revealed at the meeting of the Committee nominated by the Supreme Court to resettle people in Valikamam North of the HSZ in the Tellipalai DS Division. “We informed the relevant de-mining agencies of this important decision and it will be implemented immediately,” Chairman of the Committee and Jaffna High Court Judge R.T. Vignaraja said. The rest of the Committee comprises Jaffna Security Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Mendaka Samarasinghe, Jaffna District Secretary, K. Ganesh and Deputy Inspector General (Northern Range) Dayananda Bandara. In addition, the Supreme Court has directed the relevant authorities to take necessary action for the Jaffna Government Hospital to function properly. The Supreme Court also directed the Committee to shift the bund adjoining the hospital premises and set up fences so that the hospital is outside the HSZ, allowing people easy access to the hospital. “The Supreme Court gave this directive as the Jaffna Government Hospital is the second largest hospital in the island and the only hospital with the facility to treat cancer patients,” Vignaraja added (Full report in Sunday Observer).

If the UK or the US can pursue a war in a distant land to secure their cities, then President Mahinda Rajapaksa should have the equivalent right to do the same for Colombo.

Probe into LTTE's intrusion on Army website - Army intelligence has launched an extensive investigation on the LTTE's intrusion over the Sri Lanka Army's official website (www.army.lk), according to Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara. The Sri Lanka Army Website was hacked and technically `assassinated' by suspected Tiger terrorists or their proxies, during the wee hours on Friday, May 1, by inserting some gruesome images. However, Sri Lanka Army experts successfully restored their hacked website in a couple of hours. Brigadier Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer that the alleged LTTE intrusion into the Army website had taken place from abroad but the Army swiftly thwarted the malicious attempt and put the web back on track. "Now the readership could reach our site as usual." We are heartened to receive the flood of inquiries being directed to us since the moment 'web terrorists' made the intrusion, Brigadier Nanayakkara said. The Sri Lanka Army Web is now back in order as usual on www.army.lk The spokesman said this new form of information 'terrorism' is a criminal offence that can be subjected to prosecution, according to international legal provisions (Sunday Observer).

Akashi highly taken up by Vanni camps Japan provides US $ 4 m: - The Japanese special envoy Yasushi Akashi expressed his satisfaction on the manner in which the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were being looked after in the camps Vavuniya and pledged to provide assistance for humanitarian activities in the Vanni. Akashi had held an extensive discussions with Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama at the Foreign Ministry yesterday, based mainly on the current humanitarian issues with regard to the IDPs in Vavuniya. Earlier, Yasushi Akashi had called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and had talks on the overall situation. Following the meeting with Foreign Minister Bogollagama, the Envoy who is in the island for the 17th time told the press that the Japanese Government would provide US $ 4 million for humanitarian assistance. Resettling the IDPs in their original places was also discussed between the Japanese envoy and Foreign Minister Bogollagama. Foreign Minister speaking to the press, said that the Japanese Envoy was briefed extensively on the ongoing humanitarian activities in the IDP centres in Vanni. “It is the first time in the world that 120,000 IDPs were safely rescued and brought into the Government held areas between the period of April 19 to 22. The Government is also determined to bring out the rest of the people safely from the No Fire Zone, Bogollagama added. Akashi further said on the eve of his departure back to Tokyo that it was tragedy of the LTTE that they had boycotted the Tokyo Declaration which could have restored peace in Sri Lanka long ago. He believed that the LTTE would let the people in its territory go to Government controlled areas at least at this belated point of time heeding to requests from the international community (Sunday Observer).

More essential items to North - A large consignment of dry rations, biscuits, milk foods, readymade garments, clothing materials and medicine for over 180,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were dispatched to Vavuniya District and suburban welfare camps. The Competent Authority, BMICH Distribution Centre, Bandula Ekanayake told the `Sunday Observer' that twenty containers and lorryloads of food items, garments and medicine have been sent to Vavuniya welfare camps. He said that the distribution centre at BMICH receives a substantial stocks of food items, dry rations, medicine and garments from various organisations and from individuals. "As a result we took a decision to send at least three to four lorryloads of food items a day for IDPs from next week," he said. Ekanayake also said that several organisations have also pledged their support to send building materials for IDPs, but priority is given to send food items, garments and medicine. He said several organisations and individuals have volunteered to build around 100 housing units for IDPs and this project will commence after selecting a suitable location in the district (Full report in Sunday Observer).

Protest by Tamil Terrorist (LTTE). What does it mean to Canada? - By Lenin Benedict from Toronto Asian Tribune - ..... The so called mass protest or rallies organized by LTTE Diaspora in Canada in several places, where organizers had discreetly avoided to come forward to speak to the media on behalf of the "letter-head" organization that organized the event, clearly showed that LTTE was behind this clandestine operation. By putting youths and students on the front line in all countries, the LTTE wants to show the world or threaten indirectly to the concerned Governments that if the respective countries failed to listen to them, it can go further to destabilize them with their youth and students power. Some street fights with police force by these youths in several countries, were clear indication that LTTE is ready to challenge any Government authority by all means. Protest and rallies are a part of our Democratic system and firmly protected by Charter of Rights. But everyone should understand that there is a bottom line and a limit to everything. Will the same Democracy is practiced or allowed to practice by LTTE in their De Facto Government? NO, Absolutely NO. (Full report in Asian Tribune).

SPUR takes on Burgher Association (Australia) on ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka - Expressing concern over the Australian-based Burgher Association’s letter to Premier Kevin Rudd (Sunday Island 26/4/09), the Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka Inc (SPUR) says the "tone and accusations in the letter reflects adversely on the Sinhala and Tamil communities, which consist of law abiding citizens in the main". SPUR has pointed out to Mrs. Elaine Jansz, President, Burgher Association (Australia) - "We also noted that you have made several derogatory comments and generalisations regarding sections of the Sri Lankan community without naming any of them or offering any evidence." SPUR is a multi-ethnic organisation which promotes peace and human rights for all communities within an Unitary Sri Lanka. "While we have consistently denounced the separatist terrorism of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and campaigned against the anti-Sri Lankan misinformation propagated by its supporters, we have also maintained close relationships with many members of the Tamil and Muslim communities including non-Sri Lankan Australian who are opposed to the LTTE," it says (Full report in Sunday Island).
