ICRC continues their support to evacuate civilians, over 175,000 have fled the war zone in Sri Lanka

Apr 23, Colombo: The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy ferried the 24th batch of sick and wounded civilians yesterday by the sea route.
ICRC evacuated 353 patients and their caregivers to Pulmoddai on board the MV Green Ocean sailing under the ICRC flag with the security provided by the Sri Lankan Navy.
The Naval doctors provided emergency medical treatment to the patients upon disembarkation at Pulmoddai and rushed them to the Field hospital in Pulmoddai and the General Hospital in Padawiya.
Meanwhile the total number of civilians fled to the government-controlled areas has risen to 175,714 by yesterday evening, the government reported.
Government statistics reveal that a total of 103,143 civilians have escaped the rebel clutches during the last three days. Security forces rescued 42,316 civilians on Monday, 40,704 on Tuesday, and 20,123 on Wednesday.
