LTTE kills another escaping nine-year-old child

Mar 15, Colombo: As more and more people from Wanni are escaping to cleared areas, the rebels increasing their attacks on fleeing civilians fired at a group of 66 civilians trying to escape by sea and killed another nine year old boy, the military said.
The army headquarters said that 67 civilians had left the Puthumatthalan area in the Mullaitivu in five boats to reach the cleared areas seeking protection.
However, the rebels have detected the movement and opened fire at the boats warning the civilians onboard to turn back. However, the escapees have ignored LTTE threat and continued their journey amidst the shower of terrorist gunfire and managed to reach cleared area of Munai where they were rescued by the security forces around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
One boat with civilians onboard had gone missing during LTTE firing.
A nine-year old boy who sustained LTTE gunshot injuries in his head while sleeping in his mother's lap was found dead. His remains were sent to the government hospital for the post mortem.
