* Number of civilians fled from Sri Lanka's war zone reaches 150,000

Apr 22, Colombo: The total number of civilians fled from rebel held areas to government controlled areas has risen to 150,000, the military said today.

Speaking to the media, Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka said with the arrival of a large civilian group yesterday the total number now stands at 150,232.

The Army Commander said the total number of Internally Displaced Persons reached the cleared areas north of Putumatalam yesterday rose to 77,793.

According to the Army chief only 10,000 to 15,000 civilians are currently trapped in the rebel held areas.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Air Force has taken measures to deliver cooked meals to the civilians who are escaping the No Fire Zone on the instructions of the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Air Force has air lifted nearly 6,000 meal packets and water bottles yesterday to the fleeing civilians.
