May 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education has taken measures to conduct a census of school-age children among the displaced people in the welfare camps to recommence their education activities.
The Education Ministry said they hope to admit them to temporary schools in Vavuniya to restart their education at the appropriate school grade levels.
Ministry statistics have revealed that there is a large number of school children living in those welfare centers who lost their education due to the LTTE activities in the rebel held areas.
The education officials have already taken measures to conduct temporary classes for those children at the welfare centers.
Under this process several teachers living among the IDPs will also be conducting classes with the assistance of local officials in areas where temporary villages and shelters were provided to them, the Ministry added.
