Tamil Tigers raise US $300m a year to wage a brutal struggle against Sri Lanka

Sumane Liyanaarachchi in Sydney

Sydney, 06 May, (Asiantribune.com): "Tamil Tigers have established a strong international network of sympathisers raising an estimated $300M a year, mostly though violent and illegal means, to wage a brutal struggle against a legitimate and sovereign government of Sri Lanka and its people. Our association has reasons to believe that such fund raising for terrorism cannot be done without the knowledge of some of the participants to Tuesday’s event."

Nimal Liyanage , the President of SPUR New South Wales Branch made above remarks sending a fax letter to the Premier of New South Wales regarding a book presentation scheduled on Tuesday 6th May within the NSW Parliament. He further pointed out to the Premier that thirty two leading nations of the world have proscribed the LTTE as a terrorist organisation, and, Australia has fallen far behind in addressing the terrorism issues of the LTTE due to the strong counter lobbying of a few Parliamentarians.

Over the past years our society has made numerous representations to yourself, State Premiers and related Ministers and also to the Federal Parliament on numerous occasions seeking support for the proscription of the LTTE under the Criminal Code Act of 1995. We would appeal to you to reconsider your decisions once again.

Full text of the letter is as below:

According to reliable information available to our Society, the book presentation scheduled on Tuesday 6 May 08 within the NSW Parliament premises is another ruse of the international Diaspora who sympathize with the terrorist organization LTTE, also know as the Tamil Tigers. By these legitimate activities it is LTTE’s intention is to launder their violent campaign for a separate state in Sri Lanka. No single country in the world has in the past 30 years accepted the arguments advanced on behalf of the LTTE to be treated as ‘liberation fighters’.

However, a few Australian parliamentarians in their keenness pamper Diaspora vote in the Strathfield region, have not stopped to consider the truth and the counter arguments. They continue to support these peripheral terrorist fronts with vigor. Australians of Sri Lankan origin are deeply disturbed that a terrorist propaganda event is allowed to be held within the hallowed premises of an institution of liberalism and democracy. The high profile staging of this event has led to a lot of community representation on us. This event is considered by the community as a grave and unfair attack on the sovereign democracy of Sri Lanka, especially with the use of a prime seat of democracy of a friendly nation.

The key personnel associated with the CJPD as widely publicized in the websites of the racist Terrorist website www.tamilnation.org, are well known members of the international Tamil Diaspora.

The LTTE aka Tamil Tigers have established a strong international network of sympathisers raising an estimated $300M a year, mostly though violent and illegal means, to wage a brutal struggle against a legitimate government of Sri Lanka and its peoples. Our association has reasons to believe that such fund raising for terrorism cannot be done without the knowledge of some of the participants to Tuesday’s event. The atrocities of the LTTE on innocent civilians are too numerous to list in a short letter of this nature, but are extensively documented internationally.

Over the past years our Society has made numerous representations to yourself, State Premiers and related Ministers and also to the Federal Parliament on numerous occasions seeking support for the proscription of the LTTE under the Criminal Code Act of 1995. We would appeal to you to reconsider your decisions once again. Thirty two leading nations of the world have proscribed the LTTE as a terrorist organisation, and, Australia has fallen far behind in addressing the terrorism issues of the LTTE due to the strong counter lobbying of a few Parliamentarians. In the years to come, Australia will find itself increasingly isolated and embarrassed by its own inactivity over the human carnage in Sri Lanka.

The LTTE Diaspora especially in the Strathfield area lobby extensively their politicians both State and Federal, and do conduct functions of the CJPD book presentation nature to keep the
proscription bogey away. As a result Australia would become a very safe haven in the future for support for the LTTE’s brutal terrorism in Sri Lanka. Our Society has on several previous occasions brought to your attention the use of public facilities such as the Homebush Public School, the Ryde Civic Centre and the Bowman Hall in Blacktown for LTTE’s promotional activities, including the eulogising and veneration of terrorism and suicide bombers. It is estimated by international terrorism experts that 15% of the LTTE funds originate in Australia through such propaganda and through stand over tactics.

In closing this brief facsimile our Society fervently appeals to you,

1 to take immediate steps to cancel the event scheduled by the Centre for Just Peace and Democracy (CJPD) on Tuesday 6 May 08 in the NSW Parliament premises

2 to give the highest consideration in reviewing the previous recommendations to the Federal Attorney General in connections with the proscription of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an international terrorist organisation under Criminal Cod Act 1995.
