Mar 26, Colombo: A group of armed LTTE gunmen have attacked a group of farmers in Mankdeniya in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa on Wednesday night and shot dead at least four more farmers and injured four others, the military said.
Defence officials said the farmers were collecting their harvest from the paddy filed in a tractor, when the armed Tigers attacked them. Four injured farmers were admitted to the Polonnaruwa hospital for treatment.
On Tuesday a group of suspected LTTE cadres killed five farmers and injured two in a similar attack at Dehiwatte village, in Serunuwara of Trincomalee.
